Staying in Bloomington this weekend with my husband for our 4 year anniversary. Planning on visiting Oliver Winery and the Exotic Feline Rescue Center... which is amazing! Any suggestions on neat places to eat, things to see, etc? Thank you!
Re: Bloomington trip ideas?
Darn it! I had just typed up three giant paragraphs, with links, for Bloomington restaurants. This one will be more condensed.
One of my fave things to do is walk down 4th Street and see where my stomach takes me! There are a TON of authentic, independently-owned and adorable restaurants here. Indian, Italian, Mediteranean, French... even Tibetan! The Tibetan place is my fave- it's Anetysang's Little Tibet. Around the corner is the more-famous Tibetan Restaurant Snow Lion (famous because it is owned by the Dali Lama's brother!). Tibetan food is comparable to Thai or maybe a little Indian.
If you're not that adventurous, you could try Upland Brewery, Little Zagreb's (great steak!), Malibu Grill, Roots on the Square (Vegetarian, but don't let that scare you, great stuff here!), Scholar's Inn, or Michael's Uptown Grill.
Great casual lunch or just drop by places include Laughing Planet for great burritos (and get some coffee next door at Soma while yo're there!), Encore Cafe (cafeteria style yuminess), Bloomington Bagel or Runcible Spoon (yum for breakfast).
If you're looking for a more "fancy" night out, look to TALLENT www.restauranttalent.com. Highly regarded as one of the best restaurants in Indiana, it is pricey but I hear (sorry, haven't been yet) it is well worth every penny. Farm http://www.farm-bloomington.com/ is another newish great local spot. Not quite as pricey as Tallent and they offer lunch. Both of these places work hard to utilize local produce, which means more flavorful and fresh dishes! Both places would need reservations.
Sorry, that's www.restauranttallent.com
I second walking down 4th Street :P Snow Lion is pretty good, but it can get crazy depending on the crowd that wants to see the famous restaurant.
I LOVE Roots (I'm a veggie), Scholar's Inn, Bloomington Bagle, Runcible Spoon and Laughing Planet.
There are tons of amazing restaurants
If you're into the arts, I HIGHLY recommend seeing a student production -- opera, theatre, orchestra -- whatever because they are all amazing!
