AW: SuperGreen can make Thanksgiving!

We're hosting Thanksgiving this year for the first time (with ingredients from the Farmer's Market of course) and all I've heard from everyone is "oh it's so hard.  Oh you'll be so stressed. Yadda yadda yadda."  I point out that I've roasted a chicken tons of times and am a confident cook and I hear back "oh Thanksgiving is different.  You have all these sides and nothing fits in the oven and it's so stressful."

So I decided to do a Thanksgiving Dress Rehearsal.  I bought a large Farmer's Market chicken, and roasted that along with making all the sides I'm doing for Thanksgiving.  Guess what?  It wasn't hard.  There was no stressed out "my hair's on fire!" moment. Everything was ready and hot at the same time.  And it was FABULOUS.

At the end of the meal, DH high-fived me and said "You can make Thanksgiving!"  Heck YEAH SuperGreen can make Thanksgiving!

  • Awesome!  H and I host my family every year for Thanksgiving, and it gets to be a bit much going on in the kitchen and oven at some points, but it's totally doable.  H and I cook together, and it's actually a lot of fun.  Glad your rehearsal went well. :-)

  • Making thanksgiving should NEVER be stressful!! Kind of defeats the purpose of a holiday right? Thats awesome that your dress rehearsal went smoothly. That was really smart to do. I always bake my pies the night before. They're still fresh and you can always throw em in the oven for a few to warm them up again before serving. Have a great Thanksgiving!
  • Go you!  We hosted Thanksgiving for the first time last year, and did a Thanksgiving 3.0 (2.0 was at a friend's house) a few months later.  The hardest part for me is figuring out what temperature to cook my side dishes at. and for how long, once the turkey is out so that they're all done at the same time.
  • YAY!! I think how stressful it is depends a lot on your attitude and your own doings. My ex-H's grandma used to start making T-day at 1 am. NO KIDDING. So we could all have dinner at 11 am. WTF? Who wants dinner at 11 am, especially since about 15 of us were in the young, please let us sleep late stage. I think she liked 'sacrificing' for everyone though.

Anyways... I also have done a 'dry run' and on my first attempt it wasn't done until midnight. WHOOPS!

Cooking a turkey is so much faster if you don't stuff it. I also have a roaster that can be used to cook the turkey or other items on the side, which is super helpful and I got it for about $20 on a post Thanksgiving sale a few years ago.

    Enjoy your turkey day!
