did you go with the 3g or was the wi fi enough? what storage? I'm thinking of getting this for dh for Christmas but am unsure and don't want to ask him since this isn't something I would normally bring up with him! also, someone said they are possibly coming out with the ipad 2 after Christmas? should I just wait? No clue what would be the difference. thanks for any help.

There's not a version without WiFi - it's either WiFI or WiFI + 3G.
To the OP - we have the smallest WiFi-only model. We have internet access most places where we'd pull it out to use it (home, office, coffee shops, airports, etc.), there are plenty of uses for it without a connect (between eReader apps and Instapaper), and we didn't want to pay extra for the device and tack a monthly fee on top of that just for a marginal increase in convenience. If we need to be connected that badly, we can use our smartphones. The iPad fills the gap between our phones and our computers.

This. My 2 year old uses it the most of anyone, and if anything I wish I had a tiny bit more room on it to put her favorite shows for long road trips, but it hasn't been an issue.

i got an ipad for my wedding gift and LOVE it... DH got me the wi-fi one and then got me the verizon five spot (a mobile hot spot) that I can use to link my laptop, netbook, and ipad (up to five things) worldwide. This is great for me because a) i am a gadget junkie, b) I need to be connected for work and am out of the office a lot and c) verizon has a MUCH better network in Pennsylvania than AT&T (at least where we live) so I can connect even when his iphone is slow because its not on 3G.
we asked the guys at Apple about if a new ipad is coming out. they told me there is nothing planned but there is an update coming to the ipad software in the next few weeks.
