Cupcake verdict
Sweet Bakery in St. Paul had wonderful french macaroons. But their cupcakes are dense like a muffin and pretty dry. They had about 5 flavors.
Sweet Retreat in Minneapolis was wonderful moist cupcakes with great flavors. They had 12 flavors.
By the time we got to Cocoa & Fig DH was ready to kill me for buying so many cupcakes. We just tasted those and they were great flavors and very elegant.

You must have hit Sweets on a bad day! I have great luck with them and the breakfast cupcake ROCKS.
Never tried Sweets Retreat, but I will now!
And Cocoa and Fig.... Mmmmm. If I didn't have to pay to park downtown to get them, I'd be going there more often!

I feel so terribly boring - I've never set foot in a cupcake shop, let alone been able to make a day of taste-testing
Best I manage to do is walk to Woullet's Bakery a few times a year (and we only live 6 blocks away!).
