Suggestions for Nutcracker Christmas Party

Ok, so thanks to Lisa who gave me the idea to use the nutcracker as a theme this yr for our big holiday pty, I've begun to plan. :) Thank you list! I'd love to hear more ideas. Here's what I have so far:

Decor-  Planning on using the command thingies on my ceiling from the last pty, to hand something... Im thinking something like snowflakes or something... Ideas? I made the martha poms for my party last yr, so that's an idea, but I like the snowflake or snow idea...  or maybe candy??  not sure...

Cake- NO idea! I'd like something whimsical, so either colorful with candy or white with pearls and glitter... to match the land of the sweets or land of the snow.  i'll decorate the mantel with feather white boa, white candles...

Food-  signiture cocktail- I have Godiva chocolate liquor on hand and would love to use that with something minty and name it something related to the nutcracker. Ideas/recipes?

I'll also do a large champagne/wine cocktails in my lg dispenser as well, with beer, soda...etc

For food, a nestie on here suggested a roast or ham with rolls and then appetizers. So, that's the plan.  What kind of aps should I do?  Something simple and make ahead is best for this kind of pty for me as the main part is the dessert.

Candy buffet and cupcakes.  I found cupcake flairy tags, so I'll use those and make my own cupcakes and have the candies to decorate with already.  No idea about the candy buffet- I have the glass containers but need a theme and ideas on what type of candy with names for each....

Im doing a chocoate fondue or maybe will buy a fountain but Im not sure its worth it.  While we entertain a lot, I read some negative reviews, so if I dont get it I'll use my fondue pot.

Activities- Im doing a home made photo booth- just a sheet with some props like wings, wands, swords.... relating to the ballet.  I'd like to do a give away game, ideas?

I've already bought the wands, tuutuus for the kids and wings for adults and still need swords for the guys/boys.  It's optional. I plan on asking guests if they want to dress up as one of the characters and if they do, i will give them a little card with info on that character and perhaps make the game/give away ....  ideas?

Music- I found nutcracker cds at the library so i plan to use that... plan to have nutcracker books around too...

OH, my favorite part. I'm making an edible christmas tree in the party room.  Already have the tree/ornaments. I plan on using regular ornaments and then make little cones from cardstock, hang them with candies inside... then wrap lilli pops in tissue paper, hang those... then candy canes....   any other recs?

thanks ladies!

Re: Suggestions for Nutcracker Christmas Party

  • In the traditional Nutcracker story (and in some ballet productions), Clara was transported with the Nutcracker to the Land of the Sweets, where they were entertained by:

    Spanish Chocolate

    Russian Candy Canes

    Arabian Coffee

    Chinese Tea

     Marzipan (apparently from Denmark)

As well as Mother Ginger (the lady, often played by a man, with all the kids under her skirts), and of course the sugar plum fairy

You could do a spinoff of each of these dances, rename your house The Land of the Sweets for the evening, and setup dessert stations!

PS, as a little girl, the single most amazing thing about the Nutcracker was the growing tree! As Clara begins to shrink down to Nutcracker size, right before she fights the mice.
