Appetizers for Holiday Party
Every year, I host a holiday party for my friends (all adults around age 30). The past few years, we've been going to a restaurant for a sit down dinner, but now I'm having it at home. It's going to be on a Saturday night, starting around 6 or 7. What should I serve? I'd prefer to do a big spread of appetizers so I'm not serving all night. Ideas please? Thanks!
Re: Appetizers for Holiday Party
Hi! here are some ideas... let me know if you need recipes. (I don't have a blogyet).
Warm Artichoke Dip
Swedish Meatballs
Shrimp Cocktail
Baked Brie with Jam and Nuts
Vegetable Platter with Dips
Little Pizzas, Tarts etc.
That's it for now.... I'm sure you will get lots of responses and also there are several blogs on the "What's Cooking" board with ap recipes.
This entry on my blog has 5 different ones:
-Bacon wrapped dates
-Zucchini Crostini (this always goes over really well)
-Toasted Red Peppers and Goat Cheese
-Tomato and Mozzarella
-Caramelized Onion Puff Pastries
Tea Time for Lulu
Since that's prime dinner time, I'd stick with heavy hors d'oeuvres. For the holidays, I like to take my cue from the season and serve hearty food, like mushrooms, sausage, butternut squash, root vegetables, sage, apples, citrus, pork, things that are at their peak. I'd stay away from anything tomato-based this time of year for that reason.
Soup shooters come to mind, too. If you have espresso cups, those work perfectly.
I'd do something in these flavor profiles.
Potato Parsnip Latkes
Carrot, Ginger and Honey Soup Shooters
Butternut Squash Galette
Gruyere Palmiers
Wild Mushroom and Thyme Bouchees
Bacon Wrapped Dates Stuffed with Blue Cheese
Sausage and Mushroom Phyllo Twists
I just served these things at a dinner party fro my appetizers, and they went over famously! Best of all, I virtually did all the prep work the day before, and then just baked/pieced together as needed the afternoon of the party. :-)
