How much for a live tree?

DH wants to buy a live Christmas tree (with the ball) for Christmas this year. I have no idea how much to budget for one. Any suggestions? TIA!

Re: How much for a live tree?

  • Around here you can get one at Home Depot starting at $25, depending on what you get you could spend up to $100.

  • I think the cost varies based on where you are and what type of tree you want. Have you tried posting this on your local board? They might have a better idea.

I would say this is a pretty good idea as long as you don't want a huge tree. It could vary depending on your local economy.

  • We usually spend $60-75 on a 7-8 foot tree. We cut it down at a local farm.

  • Ive heard about $40-$50 for a good sized one...but again depends on where you are.  We went to my grandma's hunting land last thanksgiving and cut one down for free...Ok so it wasn't the fullest tree, or it wasn't the best looking- BUT it was our 1st xmas tree  being married (my 1st live one) and it was free...so it worked for us! :)

don't get it too early and remember to water it.  :) look up online for some tips to watering it and keeping it looking fresh.

  • The tree farm we get our trees from charges about $30 for a 6' - 7' Noble Fir. Trees are plentiful here, though, and cheap.

  • I paid $14.99 for a live tree a few years ago at Fred Meyer (Kroger) that lasted for 2 years. It was a fir from Florida. I can't remember which kind right now but they are used as houseplants. I repotted it but I didn't water it right, so it dried out. Make sure you find out what it needs and you could keep it for a long time. The tree we had was about 3 or 4 feet tall and was a nice addition to our living room. It was nice to have it year round. A larger tree would probably not do so well that way.
