Hello ladies!
Its rather embarassing that I've lived in St. Louis all my life and have never visited KC before now. My DH has to report to KC for a military meeting and I'm going with him because the gas is already covered and the meeting will most likely completely change our family for a few years. His meeting is from 6:30 am until 8 pm so I've got to find some way to entertain myself and distract my mind while he's away. We plan on staying atleast one extra da since our anniversary is the same weekend. I sent off for a Visit Kansas City tourism book but I don't usually trust those things. They always make things sound so much better than they really are and never really address the gems of a city.
What should we do? Where should we go? And how can I fill an entire day with things to do by myself?
Thanks tons!!
Re: Visiting Kasas City!
Go to the Plaza and shop. That will cover quite a large part of your day, especially if you like shopping.
Where is his meeting going to be? Where are you staying? (These are important questions because we can tell you what there is to do in that particular area).
If you enjoy shopping, the Plaza is a great area. (google Country Club Plaza). Also near there is our new entertainment district: Power and Light. Lots of bars and places to eat.
The Legends is our newer shopping area. It has some outlets and other stores like Old Navy and TJ Maxx. There's also lots of new restaurants and a movie theater.
The meeting is supposed to take place at the Marriot by the airport. We'll probably stay there because he will have to report the evening of the 16th and probably close to 5am on the 17th. I have my lil' get up and go Aveo so I don't mind driving to places. What's the opinion on the Contemporary Musuem? And who doesn't like outlet shopping?
Are you talking about the Kemper? It's pretty cool - I've only been a few times, but it's fun. The Nelson Atkins also has a great new addition with modern art (new in the past few years) that is amazing.
I agree with PP for shopping - go to the Plaza.
If you're looking for a great place to eat, google the Crossroads District. It's in midtown, and there are a lot of great home town restaurants there that are dee-lish (La Bodega, 1924 Main, Lidia's to name a few). Have fun!
The 435 run from Wyandotte County to the airport shouldn't be too bad, but I'm sure there's closer hotels than the Holiday Inn.
The Kemper is nice, we went once but it was closed and I would love to go back again. The Nelson is really close by there as well. Country Club Plaza is a short distance from the both as well. There are a lot of stores there (Barnes and Noble, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware) and fountains to look at.
Legends is nice. It's not so packed during the week but it can get a little crazy on the weekends. Dave & Busters is fun, like an adult Chuck E. Cheese. H likes to go there. ?

Oh no. We booked the Sheraton. Oh well... 20/20 right? It's only two nights... I hope it won't be too awful.
Thanks for all the advice ladies! I'll definately do a ton of walking around to see things (and probably buy things, shhh) and I think DH and I will most likely end up at the Kemper!!
