kids holiday party

We are hosting a holiday party for 4-year-olds.  We've invited both boys and girls. I'm looking for game ideas.  We told all the kids to bring a secret santa gift (boys bring a boy gift, girls bring a girl gift).  We'll maybe do a pinata, and/or pin the carrot nose on snowman.  But looking for other age-appropriate game ideas.  The party will be 2 hours long and won't include a meal, but will include snacks.  TIA!!!

Re: kids holiday party

  • ornament making? - have different craft materials out to make ornaments - crayons, glitter, glue, string, hole punches, colored paper in seasonally appropriate colors, google eyes, pom-poms, scissors, shape stencils ect.

For more control (but less developmentally appropriate) come up with a specific ornament to make, gather just those supplies, and have a model available.

guess how many somethings in the something - candy in jar, ornaments on a tree - should be interesting with 4 year olds limited concept of number.

  • I host a holiday cookie party each year.  I pre-bake cut out cookies and let the kids decorate them.  I have the adults put colored frosting on the cookies and then give them to the kids and they add candies and sprinkles.  They take home a box of all the cookies they decorated for Santa and family to enjoy.  I also always do a craft with them....I have not decided what craft this year - I think some type of orniment decorating.  We always watch a holiday movie after all the festivities...this year The Polar Express. Our party lasts several hours and I include lunch too....it's kind of an all day event.
