throwing a pure romance/girls night party
next month I'll be throwing a pure romance and girls night in party.
what are some ideas on food?
I plan on having people over around 5 or 6 for dinner, and then the pure romance starts at 7 and ends around 9 or 10.
I'm inviting around 25 girls.
so i'd love some ideas on food, snacks and so on
Re: throwing a pure romance/girls night party
If you're inviting 25 girls, you'll need something you can make in large batches. If you have a grill (and it's not too cold where you live), the burgers/brauts/chicken breasts thing usually gets a good reception. Lasagna is easy to make in big batches and is loved by most people; ditto most other pasta-based dishes. A buffet might be a good idea; that way you don't have to worry about trying to individually serve that many ladies.
Lots of munchies and nibbles! Appetizers are small and can be extremely time-consuming. Check your local grocery store for frozen ones you can just pop in the oven -- Trader Joe's has a fantastic selection. I like little egg rolls with dipping sauces, or mini quesadillas with fun add-ins. I am also a sucked for deviled eggs and pigs-in-blankets, even though I know some people think they're kind of gross. Good Housekeeping's website has some good finger food recipes: http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/food/best-recipes/fabulous-finger-foods
And of course...drinks. I dunno what kind of crowd your ladies are, but mine LOVE it when I do Midori sours. I'd keep it to one signature cocktail and a couple base liquors with mixers if you're going to do a mix-your-own bar idea. Or alternately, open a few bottles of red or white wine (or Guinness!) for everyone to enjoy.
Hope this helps!
My Bridesmaids did a party like that for me, We did finger foods, the shrimp rings, fruit/ veggie trays, chips-n-salsa, they even found penis shaped pasta for pasta salad. I really like the fondue idea. as far as drinks went we had margarita's, and there was a bottle of wine as well. it really depend on how much time you want to invest in to the "dinner" part of it. and as far as the drinks go, what do the majority of your girls like to drink, if it's wine stick with that, hard alcohol, get a bottle of something that can be mixed with a verity of soda or juices.
I love the idea of lasagna or a pasta dish! That sound so easy!t thanks!
and even if others think they are gross pigs in a blanket and deviled eggs are AWESOME!!
most of the girls like the drink wine, and I know some of them drink martinis or vodka based drinks (vodka tonic and so on) so I'll probably stick with that!
I dont know if I have all the necessary stuff to make fondue...even though it does sound yummy!
Please don't do this. Fondue skeeves some people out (self included unless it's with DH). Also, for that many people, the logistics would be difficult (think, trying to keep all of those skewers straight, having enough meat/veggies/fruit, having everyone congregate at the same location).
I love this post/thread because my friends and I are getting together for our annual gift exchange/ugly sweater party mid-December and I'm hosting it at my house this year (which I'm soooo excited about!). I plan on making lasagna too because like you, I think it's easy and is always sooooo good! Plus it's filling and it just looks fancy. You could serve it with a simple salad and garlic bread (which are all easy to do homemade and can you imagine how good your house will smell? lol), just to finish it off as a complete meal. Maybe for appetizers you can serve an antipasti (italian meats, cheeses, olives, roasted red bell peppers, etc.) and have sort of an italian theme, maybe add a cold shrimp platter or something. I don't know...that's what I'll probably do.
Since the girls like wine, you could buy a red and white and make a couple different sangrias....just add sliced fruit to it, that'd go with the theme/meal, and look really good too.
oooh Sangria! What another good idea! For one of my bridal showers, there was a white sangria and it was delicious!
I'm also going to make some sweet stuff like walnut brownies and choc chip cookies! mmm...chocolate...
Sangria = YUM, for sure! LOL
Oh and of course you can't go wrong with chocolate, anything chocolate - haha. These aren't chocolate but have you ever made Russian (or Mexican) Tea Cakes? They're delicious! Plus they're so easy to make, 'different' and since you're doing this in December it's cute because they look like little snow balls

http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/russian-tea-cakes-i/Detail.aspx (I guess you could use a little cocoa powder mixed with the confectioners'/powdered sugar if you really wanted them, or some of them, to be chocolate)
Ya know, another cute idea since it's a "Romance" party, why not 'name the food' (maybe I'm taking this too far, haha) something like "Lovers Lasagna", "Sensual (or Sexy, or both if you have a white and red) Sangria", "Charming Chocolate Chews" and "Sweet Balls". Bahahahaha, I'm sorry...I had to throw that in there, I have no clue what you could call those tea cakes and balls are romantic, right? LOL!
Why not make it a Mexican fiesta? Set up a taco bar: make a salsa chicken in the crock pot then set up all the fixings - cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sour cream, etc. You can make a 7 layer dip, guacamole, salsa and pico de gallo (these will also we used to top their tacos) to serve with tortilla chips and veggies. You could also do taquitos and chicken quesdilla triangles for appetizers as well. For desert you can do flan or mexican wedding cake cookies. Serve margaritas!
Have fun! We had one of these parties as one of my bachelorettes and it was a ton of fun.
Ha! I like where your head is at! That would be cute to name the foods.
OP: I think this kind of event calls for more party foods/hors d' oevres than a meal like lasagna. If you want to do sangria, maybe go for some spanish tapas. Also, at parties like these the guests tend to touch a lot of the products so maybe try to serve foods that won't get everyone's hands too dirty. Just a thought. Have fun!
