What's the funniest gift you've ever received?

A couple years ago, my mom gave me a beautiful silk tablecloth. She very seriously told me how it was special because my uncle, now passed away, had brought it back to her from Thailand and she wanted me to have something from him. It was very nice but the funny thing is, I'm the one who brought it back to her from Thailand. We all had a good laugh when I told them that I was the one who had given it to her. I kept it, though.

I admit it. I'm a re-gifter but I'm really careful about who I give those gifts to. I'm always worried about giving it back to someone else.

  • That's funny!! I used to re-gift all the time when I was in college and was low on $$. I should re-gift now to save money, but I feel like because I am older it will look worse haha.

I have never had many funny gifts, but I do have 1 aunt that everyone dreads to have get them for our secret santa. One year she got me baskets. I was a senior in HS, the last thing I wanted was baskets. They weren't even cute. I'm not sure whatever happened to them

She got my mom a UGLY 1,000 piece puzzle, complete with the roll up mat for it. My mom is not a puzzle person.

I think someone let her know what we were all thinking because she has given gift cards the past few years...

  • Gift cards are great. I would love it if that was all I ever got.
  • my BIL installs tile for a living, he had made my sister a BEAUTIFUL Cutting bored out of marble he had left over from a job, I mentioned how i would LOVE one too, and he said sure he'd make it. about 2 yrs later nothing, so I kinda poked at it to see if he was still going to make me one, that xmas I got a one with a note to stop nagging him.  we all had a good laugh at the note, and me trying to hold up this big heavy cutting bored for the photo

  • When I was 6 or 7 I really wanted a Crimp N Curl Cabbage Patch doll (you could crimp and curl its hair).  I opened my "big" present and it was a curling iron (we didn't have much money).  I was very confused - my mom said, "I couldn't find a Crimp N Curl, but I thought this would work."  I then tried to explain that when I said I want a "Crimp N Curl" I meant a doll. They felt REALLY bad and bought me the doll the next day.

  • My grandma, who is notorious for giving wacky gifts, gave me padded underwear ("to keep you warm in the winter," she said) but do nothing other than make me look like Jennifer Lopez! That same year she also gave me a box of soap and a economy sized bag of razors......

The padded underwear DID come in handy this year though...since I dressed up as Snooki for Halloween! :-)
