Gift Wrapping Prices- Need Opinions
I decided to start a gift wrapping service for the holiday season since I love wrapping gifts and extra money is never a bad thing. Below is my flyer. I'm looking for any feedback and curious what you think about my pricing. The presents will be wrapped in the customers choice of wrapping paper (at least 6 options) and will include a To/From tag. Bows will be extra ($1 to $3 depending on size and complexity).

Re: Gift Wrapping Prices- Need Opinions
Well hello entrepreneur! I think that sounds like such a fun side job and idea. To whom will you be giving this flyer? If it's people you know, then maybe a last name or telephone number wouldn't be as important--especially if YOU are handing it to them personally, but if not--if it might go out to a more generic audience-- then those two things (plus a website maybe?) may help give you some more credibility.
The prices seem VERY reasonable, imo. Especially the delivery charge--you'll be busy yourself so you need to make enough money to make it worth the effort. In a "service" business like this, time=money, so be sure to be compensated for your time as well as your supplies.
I'm posting the flyer up at work and then emailing it out to family/friends/neighbors. So most of them know me, but I think adding my last name and cell phone is a good idea! Thanks!
I think I'm going to hold off on the website for this year. If I get a big turnout, then I'll get one up and running for next year.
i'm thinking of this 2 different ways.
1st - if i were doing a gift wrapping business, i'd only do it if i was making a decent profit. think about how many small gifts you can wrap from a single roll. costs vs. profit perspective.
2nd - as a buyer, its not the type of service that i would seek out anyways. i like doing it myself.
I'm definitely going to make a profit with the current prices. I bought a TON of wrapping paper on sale after Xmas a few years ago so I really only need to recoup $20 for all of my paper. And since I enjoy wrapping presents, I'm fine if my hourly rate is a bit low.
I definitely get that this service isn't for everyone. I actually find it weird that people don't like wrapping their own presents since I love it so much!
My mother hates wrapping presents, she'd be more than willing to pay someone to do it for her. Before we moved out she would have my sister and I wrap each others presents. It's definitely not for everyone, but most businesses aren't. I say good for you! If I were a busy parent (or just a person who hated wrapping) I'd probably take you up on it!
I also really enjoy wrapping all of our gifts (its almost like a weird stress relief. . . .until you get to that stupid odd shaped gift)
But I know for a fact that my mom would have seriously taken interest in this kind of offer as she always pulled me aside to wrap everything.
If you've got enough interest, I'd def say go for it!
If I knew enough people, I'd probably look into something similar lol
Best of luck!
I think its a good idea - esp the storage and the delivery part! Most kids (and adults) are pretty nosey and its hard to keep secrets! I love to wrap presents, but my DH poor fella does such a poor job at it that I can peel back the wrapping to see what the gift is.....
You also have to look at how busy a lot of people are during this time of year - that would work out great for busy folks!! And depending how busy you are I would totally do a website next year. Wonder if you could rent out space and do it at a mall??
My dad was so lazy at wrapping presents that one year (about two years ago) he wrapped a sweater. . that was already mine. He assumed that since it looked new, that it was a present for me. *Sigh* talk about a let down when opening presents !
I had to do this too! My mom would tape shut the shirt boxes so that I wouldn't peek.
That didnt work for me. I still peeked. She also would shop for me at Belks and instead of wrapping paper they used pretty boxes. I would unravel the tape look and tape it back. I was no fun.
Speaking of nosy children!
The flyer is cute and I think that the prices are very reasonable.
One thought I had about the storage- on the very small chance that your house got broken into and any of the gifts got stolen, would your homeowner's insurance cover the cost of those things? (It would be a weird situation because it would be somebody else's item stored at your house for business reasons- so you might want to check with your insurance.) Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I know that more homes get broken into at the holidays and gifts stolen, and I'd hate for you to have to pay to replace any gifts that get stolen from your home. Just a thought.
I actually called my insurance agent today about this! I just want to make sure I'm covered before I accept big ticket items. It is also because of this reason that I'm not going to advertise on Craigslist. It just seems like it will be too easy for someone with bad intentions to take advantage of the situation. So I'm sticking to people at work, friends, and neighbors for now!
That was smart of you! If you do decide to store things at your house, it'd probably be a good idea to keep a description of each item (or even a digital photo), just in case. Good luck!!
