As requested...here are my recommendations.
-Meet the locals they are the ones that make Ireland so great...don't be shy and talk to everyone about anything. That's the best way to get tips and hints on things to see and where to go. Plus you'll have a great time with them.
-The Rick Steve's' Guide to Ireland was pretty helpful...if any of you girls want to borrow it, let me know. He was spot on on most of the sights recommendations, but his taste in Hotels is not the best/more modern...he loves B&Bs and I like impersonal hotels where people are friendly, but I don't have to sit and spend my night chatting with a host rather than drinking myself stupid. For hotels go with tripadvisor.
-Dublin: it was ok; 2 days is enough just make sure you get up early to see everything or split the sights in 2 days. First day I would do Trinity College (Book of Kells) and Archeology Museum if you want to see it. Then next day hop on hop of bus to the other sights. If you don't like Whiskey you can skip Jameson's, but I did like the Guinness one. For the Guinness my favorite was pouring my own pint, I did go to the tower, but chose to pour my beer instead of having it on the top...some people got away with pouring it and then taking it up to the top. And I love the tour of Killmainham Gaol especially because they gave us a lot of history that made me understand better all the things I saw on the countryside...plus scenes of The Tudors where filmed there and I'm a sucker for all things Henry VIII.
-Car: I thought driving was the best way to see the country and go at your own pace, but don't rent the car while in Dublin...it is kind of hard to drive in the crazy traffic of the city, plus parking can be challenging/expensive. We picked up the car at the airport the day we left the city. Also most cars are a stick shift, if you are not used to driving a stick pay the extra and go with and automatic, some roads are steep and really narrow, plus the stick is on the other side, but the pedals are the same, so it gets confusing...I haven't driven a stick in years so I was glad we paid for the automatic. Also download the maps for Ireland on your GPS (it's like $60) and it saved us a lot of headache 'cause there where some roads closed and the maps didn't even have the roads the GPS re-routed us trhough...besides you wanna see the country, not stare a map and decipher the signs written in Gaelic instead of English, that are few and far between and that sometimes are not even pointing in the right directions 'cause they have been hit by someone.
-Rock of Cashel...it was one of my favorite sights, we saw it on the way from Dublin to Kenmare where we stayed after Dublin.
-Killkeny: we drove though the park on our way to Kenmare and catched the sunset at the lake..it was gorgeous!
-Kenmare: it was my favorite town. The people are awesome. We ate at "No. 35" and the food was great and then The Crowley Pub was the best time I had in all the pubs we went to, plus we met a lot of people that we plan on keeping in contact with.
-Ring of Kerry & Dingle Peninsula: we saw both, but we got early and didn?t stop much, plus we didn?t have lunch we just eat a snack in the car. It was a long day, but really worth it. If you want you can do Ring of Kerry one day (follow Rick Steves? guide) and then stay in Dingle to do Dingle Loop next day. If you can?t do both definitely do Dingle?it?s shorter, but so much prettier, plus they have the oldest buildings I?ve ever seen (the 4,000 years old Beehive Houses). We were only gonna see the Ring of Kerry and I?m really glad we did both ?cause Dingle was one of my favorite sights too.
-Galway: it?s pretty awesome too, my other favorite town. There is no much to see during the day (again follow Rick Steves? if you want to see the sights) but at night the Pubs and the Music are great. We went to Tig C?il? (great people) and I think the other one was The King?s Head, that one has awesome music.
-The Cliffs of Moher: they are pretty awesome, don?t miss them.
-Doolin: we didn?t stay there, but it look pretty cool when we drove by it. It kinda made me wanna try to stay there next time we go to Ireland.
-Flight out: we decided to fly out of Shannon to avoid having to drive back to Dublin. It was also a very good decision.
If you have any other questions, let me know!
