**Mrs. Iceman**

Hey, saw your post about going to Maui in November.  We just got back Sunday from Maui and we took our 17-month old son and had a great time.

We lucked out on the way over and managed to score an extra seat, so he didn't have to sit on our lap.  The way back, however, was complete misery as we took the red-eye flight home that got us back to Los Angeles at 6:30 am (3:30am Maui time).  There were no extra seats on that flight and thus we had him on our laps the entire flight home.  Of course, he got to sleep the whole time and we got very little to no sleep.  And then we were up all day Sunday with him on no sleep and no one to call and ask to watch him for a few hours while we got some sleep.

All of that aside, we had a great time while there.  He absolutely loved being in the swimming pool.  We stayed in Kaanapalli at the Westin Ocean Resort Villas.  They were awesome because we had a kitchen and were able to have most of our meals there.

When we weren't hanging out at the pool, we went to the Aquarium, www.mauioceancenter.com which was a very nice aquarium.  Then we went to the Maui Tropical Plantaion which has a cute little tram (think the old Disneyland parking lot tram) that drives you all around and shows you all of the different things they grow on the island (papayas, mangos, coffee, bananas, etc.)  www.mauitropicalplantation.com and then we also rode the Sugar Cane Train which is sorta cheesy, but Gavin loved it www.sugarcanetrain.com

Aside from that, we walked all around Lahaina and Wailea shopping and took a few drives.  We did not do the road to Hana because there is no way he would have wanted to be in the car for that long of a trip.

Also, if you are a sushi fan, we went to a fabulous place called Sansei Sushi www.sanseihawaii.com  located in Kapalua (not far from Kaanapalli) but they also have one in Kihei (if you happen to be staying on the south end of Maui).  They have a great 25% discount between 5:30 and 6:00.  you must arrive by 5:00 as there will be a line....but what ever you order before 6:00 is discounted and the sushi is amazing.

If I think of other things, I'll let you know.  Have fun...

  • Thanks Mindy...this is awesome!!!!  I think the flight is what I'm looking forward to the least, and am hoping we'll get lucky and score extra seats to and from Maui.  But if not, we're arming ourselves with DVDs, coloring/work books, and snacks to keep him occupied.  Crossing my fingers that he falls asleep somehow!

I read about the ocean center and the Sugar Cane train.  We'll probably hit up both of those at some point during the trip.  We passed on the road to Hana our first time out to Maui a few years back, and so DH was thinking we should try it this time.  But I agree, trying to keep a toddler in his car seat for that long probably isn't a good idea.

    Again, thanks so much :)
