Adobe CS5

For all of those out there who are familar with this software I need your help!

I am taking classes to learn how to use Illustrator currently and plan on taking classes to learn Photoshop and possibly InDesign. My goal is to create logos, mongrams, invitations and stationery, etc. for a possible etsy store. I figured I spent enough on these things for my wedding that I would love to learn how to create these items for other brides and make some $$ at the same time.

I am purchasing the CS5 software and I can't decide btwn the Standard and Premium additions. The premium comes with Dreamweaver and Flash, do I need these compontents?

Also, we have both a Mac and a PC at home which operating system is better or is it just a personal preference?

TIA :)

Re: Adobe CS5

  • Dreamweaver is for designing website and Flash is for animation so  if you just want to do logos, monograms, etc you should be good with Photoshop.  I've have Adobe with a Dell and with a Mac.  They both work well but I currently have a Mac.

Replace "Photoshop" with "Illustrator" and I'd agree with this statement.

  • You will use Illustrator more often than Photoshop. But, as for your first question, you would just need the Standard. You don't need Dreamweaver or Flash unless you're planning on building a website. You can, however, buy the Creative Suite, which comes with almost all of Adobe's products. You won't use most of them on a regular basis, but it at least comes with the 3 you are taking classes in anyway.

And for the mac and PC question, it is a personal preference. I've used CS5 on both of them, and they're pretty much the same, aside from the actual computer differences. A mac is known for being better with media (graphic design, photography, video, etc) and I do think it's easier, but if you already have a PC, it's not worth the switch.

    This.

    And another agree.

Photoshop is for editing photos, like fixing colors, resizing, taking out blemishes, etc.; Illustrator is for creating vector images and adding text.
