stockings

Our stockings don't match. Mine is from years ago. It's red and white striped knit, with my name written on it in glitter. I struggled to find a knit one for Rodgers a couple of years ago, preferably striped like mine, but what I found actually has some penguins on it or something. At least it was knit. We have a third stocking. It's red felt with white snowflakes embroidered. I think someone that Rodgers lived with while he was in college got it for him. I hung up all three of them, so there's one for each of us, and they look, in a word, ridiculous.

I popped over to amazon to see what kind of cheap cute stockings I could order. The first hit I got when I searched for stockings (semi-NSFW):

I think I'll keep looking...

Re: stockings

  • I need to specify "Christmas stockings."

These are kind of cute, actually, from WalMart:

  • lol...those are actually what first came to mind when you posted stockings.  Then I thought to myself "Heather, no one calls them stockings anymore, you old-time".

Our Christmas stockings don't match either.  In fact, since we didn't put out many decorations last year, I can't even remember what they look like!

  • yes, i was definitely thinking this was going to be about pantyhose, nylons, whatever you want to call them, lol.

those "christmas" stockings from wal-mart are cute. green at the top for the boys and red for you :)

(btw, you are cracking me up w/ your it's not official til it's on FB comments!)

  • Hahaha!

I hate Wal-Mart but really like those argyle ones.

The malls around here at this time of year always have stocking kiosks and they'll do the glitter names while you wait.  E got me one two years ago and I felt terrible that I didn't think to get one for him, so I was the only one who had one.  He was ok with it.  The funniest thng was that the guy selling them at the kiosk was Muslim.  So an atheist-raised-Catholic was buying a Christmas stocking for his agnostic Jewish fiance from a Muslim.  Isn't that perfect?

I got E his last year.  Couldn't find one exactly the same, but it's close.  Red furry (or maybe velvet?  I need to find them) with white fuzzy top with the glitter name.

Now we just need 'em for Meg, Hunter, Neptune, and Catimus!

  • Our's don't match either, I keep saying I'm going to knit us some but I remember this time of year and I know it's never going to get done by the holidays.

    Maybe next year.

  • Ours don't match either.  DH has a Cincinnati Bengals one that I bought for him, Shrek is plain red and I can't even remember what mine is...red and gold I think.

Garden Ridge and Target are good places to look too.  Ross and Marshall's sometimes have good ones but they are hit or miss.

  • The Amazon ones would definitely make a Merry Christmas in your house. Wink

Mine don't match, either...and we haven't gotten JJ a bigger stocking, either. Guess I'd better get on it...those ones from Wal-Mart are super cute!

Maybe if you did it on December 26 when it was still in your head?

Good idea, maybe I'll add it to my calendar to start knitting.

Bwahahaha! I love it. Actually it is fitting if you think about what Christmas is supposed to inspire, ie: tolerance and hope for the world.

Now that I got all deep, I really like the Christmas stockings!

  • Ours don't match either. I actually have two, each made by a Grandma many years ago, and I swap them each year. DH has one that my mom got him for their house and I swiped it so we could use it :o) I like the matching stockings from Wal-mart, maybe we'll do something like that next year.

Right?  Instead of all the divisive crap you can hear at that time of year.  I can't wait - we've got the perfect spot for a tree in this house.  Even E is excited about it this year and keeps talking about how we can get a tree without worrying about the height this time (last year we had to cut it down).
