Need ideas for an overnight trip please...
Next week is Fall Break so Haley will be out of school. It totally crept up on me, so we have no plans at all. I don't want her to just sit around bored all week. I'd like to do something as a family, but Jim won't be able to take off work for long...so I'm thinking maybe a day trip or an overnight trip somewhere not too far. Of course, it has to be something that we can manage with Caleb too...so places like Six Flags are out. We've been to the Chatanooga Aquarium and loved it, but don't want to go back there so soon. Thought about maybe a zoo, but Haley recently went to the B'ham zoo with her Girl Scout troop. I love Nashville, but what is there to do there that we would all enjoy? Any ideas of where we could go?
Re: Need ideas for an overnight trip please...
I was going to suggest Atlanta too. Lisa lives there now - maybe you guys could all meet up somewhere???
Just keep in mind they have a HUGE gas shortage in ATL right now (and most of GA).
I think Nashville will be great. I'm going there this wknd and there's LOTS to do there but not sure if all of it is baby friendly.
Hmmm, I'll think on this for ya.........

yeah..gas shortage affects the places listed (atl, chattanooga, nashville) as well as charleston.
however, i was also going to suggest atlanta..the aquarium is great and the have a "petting pool" and the coke factory is right next door. or maybe stone mountain. oak mountain is a nice place to spend the day.
i've never been there but you could try the wild animal safari in pine mtn, ga

Thanks for all the suggestions! I was also originally thinking Atl, but my BFF lives there and she is coming here to visit next weekend...so I'd rather wait and go there when we haven't seen eachother in a while. Also, she said that the Aquarium there is nice, but that she actually liked the Chatanooga one better and that it is really expensive...it would be over $100 for just the 3 of us (assuming Caleb gets in free).
Where is Oak Mtn? What is there to do there?
Well, where ever you decide or whatever you decide, you can check the gas situation here:
www.gasbuddy.com
It allows you to go to any area, state, etc. and you can see the latest post as to who has gas, who is out, and what the latest price is.
HTH!!!
oak mtn is in b'ham

Birmingham also has the McWane Center which is a lot of fun.

But, I also love Chattanooga and there is so much to do there other than the aquarium---Children's Museum, Ruby Falls, Incline, Rock City, Choo Choo, etc
Bham also has the Children's Theatre which might have something going on.

Sorry to do so many posts, but every time I do one, I think of something else.
Montgomery has the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and Charlotte's Web begins next weekend, which I think would be SO cute..

And they have a Zoo

Random thoughts to throw out there...
Desoto Caverns has some good kid activities it's in Childersburg so it could be a fun day trip. http://desotocavernspark.com/
Also, Sylacauga has the Blue Bell plant that has tours and an ice cream parlor while you are up that way.
I have heard Huntsville has a good children's musem (huntsville ladies?)
There is the Natural History Museum in Anniston w/ dinosaurs and a neat kids section. would be stroller friendly. They also have the Burman museum next door but i have never been there but heard its neat. I think tuesdays or thursdays kids get in free. I used to take the kids that i would babysit in college on the free days.
HTH!
