It depends on the kids, really. I think lot of girls her age like music from Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift etc. But then there are a lot of other girls who would rather have books or movies instead. Find out from her parents what she's into.
My "niece" (a longtime childhood friend's DD) is 9 and right now she's all about jewelry from the store "Justice." Last year I got her an initial pendant, earrings & bracelet from there and her mom said she still wants more Justice jewelry so I'll once again be on the prowl for some cute accessories from there this year.
My niece is 7 and she asked for new board games. She's outgrown the ones that she currently has - like Candy Land.
I got her Apples to Apples Kids (the 7+ version) and Bananagrams.
