i was just reminded of this fantastic episode of NPR's This American Life from earlier this year that delved deep into the why behind the mortgage crisis.
i'm a TAL groupie as it is, so sure, i'm biased, lol. but really, this is so well done on so many levels, offering the context and nuance behind why homeowners took on risky mortgage that were out of their financial league, how banks began approving mortgages to people without confirming that they even had a job, and all the players between the two.
