All of the blog sharing is starting to get on my nerves. It's one thing to answer: here are a few things you might enjoy, the recipes are in my blog. It's another to just reply with a link to your blog. Joelen is at least a regular poster, but come on with the random blog updates.

May I piggyback on your blog vent?
WHY does every entertaining blog feature the same dang thing over and over? You know the formula: folding table + themed tablecloth + stacked cake stands + appropriately colored Izze sodas lined up like soldiers + cupcakes with flag-toothpick nametags. Seriously? Is no one having dinner parties? Is no one doing buffets that aren't evidence of a need for OCD medication?

Question. So, is it the "I'm looking for appetizer ideas. Oh, here are some that fit your criteria x blog link, y blog link, z blog link" posts that bother you or the posts devoted solely to getting more readers on your blog that have no precursor? It was a little unclear to me the way you worded it.
Not that I'm the author, but I did agree with 6...
Those are the ones that bother me.
When I'm responding, I'll link to any source I think will help the person...if I had a blog with a relevant post, I'd certainly link to it, and I link to blog posts I know of that help. That's no different than bios we all used to link to.

The ones that say "Blog update" don't bother me so much because I don't have to open them, but they were a little of the tipping point today.
It's more the I need dinner/dessert/apps ideas and someone just links their blog with no verbage. Or a response with the same apps over and over and "here's my blog." Instead of actually reading and giving some sort of specific input to the poster's party it's just a "here's my blog."

You gave input on the party and then you listed different types and the recipes just happened to be in your blog (and you don't even mention it's your blog).
Another poster just said- there are some in my blog. It seems like this board is teetering on being nothing more than a regurgitation of blogs.
What's Cooking is like that. There are days the only thing over there are just dozens of blog updates. I really like the creativity on here, so I'd hate for us to go that way entirely.

Ugh.
I don't usually open the BU: posts unless the title sounds particularly appetizing.
Here's my defense of the other type of post with this disclaimer: I rarely make those posts but I've done before and here's why: Let's say, like the example, someone asks for holiday appetizers. On the blog, I've already devoted 400 words and 2 photos to each the recipes I'm recommending so I could spend time on a post that gives you a sentence about one appetizer and a C&P of the recipe or, in less time, I could direct you to a link that has a full description, credit with link (if it's not my recipe), photos, hints and thoughts about it. In the same way, I'd much rather link to a centerpiece idea from BHG or a shower theme from someone else's blog than try to descibe it in words. I think this way is more helpful but maybe it's annoying. Why is it more annoying than helpful?
That said, I do hate the posts that say "Appetizer tag in my blog (LIS)". That's not helpful at all--requires more work on the part of the OP and without the link text telling me what I'm being directed to, I might end up going to your blog and go to the tag just to find that I think your recipes sound disgusting.

Late to the party, but I completely agree. I lurk over here occasionally, and get so annoyed when every post becomes an opportunity for commenters to pimp their blog. I refuse to click on anything that's a link to someone's personal blog out of principle
I understand that bloggers put a lot of effort into photographing & detailing their cooking efforts, but it's so overdone now.
