In the last 3 days we have gotten about 15cm of snow, which, ok I live in Canada and it's November, I can't complain. My question is what do you do to stay active in Winter?
Last Winter we swam a lot which I imagine will continue and I dance but do people go to the gym, brave the cold and walk/hike. What's your favorite winter way to stay in shape?
Re: Being active in Winter.
I definitely see myself slacking in the winter, but I tell myself to at least do SOMETHING each day. I hate running on the treadmill so it's easy to run outside and get exercise in the summer, but I can't make myself go to the gym in the winter. I have some favorite workout dvd's like the 30 Day Shred, and some games on my Wii. I usually just stick to those in the winter, because it's better than nothing and I get to stay inside
I want to swim but it would have to be in the morning, and I'm not a morning person.
Running in anything over 8" of snow sucks, but it burns calories.
I've always wanted to try cross country skiing.
But I usually just go to the gym. Treadmill/elyptical... same old same old.
I definitely do the boring turn on the elliptical and I agree with pp, fun workout videos are really good for when it's snowy out.
And I know I sound like a broken record, but what better place to be when it's freezing out than a hot yoga room?

LOL, Reine, i'm going, i'm going ha.
Seriously though I did really look into it and I want to go really bad now. I just have to find the class that works best with my crazy life.
I like the idea of tapes but we have a very litlte living room...I am going to scope out Amazon though and see what they have to offer!
I take the dog for the obligatory turn around the neighborhood which, in snow, is quite an undertaking. I also have a few videos including a fitness yoga one that doesn't require much room at all. I've done the Leslee Sansone videos and she bugs me but they do get your heartrate up and don't require a ton of room. Generally need room to go forward/back side/side 4 steps or so. I watch her on mute and pump up my own music.
I use my Wii as well. We used to go to the gym and I used to swim but it wasn't in the budget once I quit my PT job. Hubby and I are hoping to get snowshoes soon and take them out on the golf course near our house. That is a workout too! Add poles for balance and to get your arms involved and you burn more calories.
I don't have any suggestions other than what PPs have mentioned, but I want to give a big
to this.
