Do you have examples of things you didn't like... I don't want to suggest styles you hate.
I have a gold one like the lower two shown.
Have you been somewhere where there are just gobs to choose from, like Hobby Lobby or the Christmas Tree Shoppe?

these examples are great but only gold and more of a light gold...either a star or the other thing (not sure what to call it)
We got a gorgeous silver sparkly star last year from Target, have you tried there? I found one online but it's out of stock right now, not sure how that works (if they'll restock it or what) http://www.target.com/Wire-Star-Christmas-Tree-Top/dp/B000SSG1SE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&searchView=grid5&keywords=tree%20top&fromGsearch=true&sr=1-6&qid=1290130846&rh=&searchRank=target104545&node=1038576%7C1287991011&searchSize=30&sessionID=182-7034444-2063035&searchPage=2&searchNodeID=1038576%7C1287991011&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&frombrowse=0

I always top our tree with a huge bow something like this...
You could go to Michael's, pick pretty gold ribbon, & have them tie it for your or find a tutorial online
I do mine with a gold bow. Let me see if I can figure out how to put a picture of it up!
Edit: Yeah I have no idea how! But I would go with a gold bow!
