Looking for a gourmet cheese shop w/MI cheese
So we are having a huge party December 11th to celebrate our wedding (we eloped in Oct!) and we want to keep it as local as possible. Our beer will be Bells and Ryke's is catering and providing a cake. They didn't offer a MI cheese selection so we are going to do that ourselves and are having a hard time locating a good cheese shop. Any ideas?
Also, any other ideas for adding local flare to our party? TIA!!
Re: Looking for a gourmet cheese shop w/MI cheese
Hi!
First places that come to mind are Martha's Vineyard or GB Russo & sons. Maybe WendyGR and a few others will pop in here, they usually has a few good idea's for something local like that.
We get most of our cheese from this farm, through the West MI Co-op.

Maybe try the Cheese Lady? She is local to Muskegon, but she advertises cheeses from around the world. You could see if she could hook you up with Michigan made cheese. She's really nice.

*I saw at least 1 Michigan made cheese on her site.
The West Michigan Co-op is a good source for local places. We had a local foods dinner at my work this summer.
We got goat cheese and cream cheese from Dogwood Farms http://www.westmichigancoop.com/about/dogwood
and the hard cheeses from Farm Country Cheese House. THey are located in Lakeview, however they sell their cheese at different locations around the area. I'm sure if you call they can tell you the closest spot to get it.

As a side note, their website cracks me up because it is amish cheese, however they have a little disco music that plays when you open their site. Itt seems so odd.
Here is a directory of Michigan Cheese makers.

Oh yes, Harvest Health sells Grassfields and Little Rooster cheeses, I believe. We have enjoyed both.
