Does anyone live in or near Hillsboro, NH?? My H and I are house hunting and it seems that we can get a lot more house with a lot less money out there, but I am wondering what the drawbacks are (in addition to it being far from our families in the Derry area).
Any input, positive or negative, is very appreciated.
TIA!
Re: Hillsboro??
Where would you work? I ask this because when I was going to school, I lived in Henniker (next town over). Traveling on RT 89 in the winter was HORRIBLE. For some reason, the roads seems to freeze in that area really quickly.
The houses are great for the price- BUT I have heard nothing but terrible things about the schools. Several co workers at my old job lived there, and my asst. principal at my new job lives there. She wants out before her oldest is school age.
Just an FYI if you have or are planning on having kids. I have no personal experience with the schools- just going by word of mouth!
I teach in hillsboro & the schools have been going through many changes. I work at the high school & I would feel comfortable sending my children there. I commute to work there- I've had other job offers but l love the kids & the great families. I do not live in town but it is a very close knit community-everyone knows each other!
Great scenery in many locations around town & like you said houses are priced great out there.
The downfalls are that there isn't much past the basics in town. Many spots around town flood in the rainy seasons.
Let me know if you have anymore questions!

My husband and I purchased our first home in Hillsboro back in April...we love it! You can definitely get more house, for less money. For us, its a perfect location because both of our families live in the Keene area and I commute between Keene and Concord during the week.
I do miss being so close to Manchester, Nashua, everywhere, but the tradeoff of having our dreamhouse totally offsets that minor inconvenience. The town has everything that you "need" (IMO); Shaw's, Rite Aid, Aubuchon's, a few good restaurants...and Concord is only 30 mins away...personally, I really enjoy being in a more rural area (relatively speaking...we are, after all, in NH), but I grew up in a really rural area. If you grew up "near everything" it may be a much harder adjustment...I guess it really all comes down to personal preference.
HTH!
Thank you for your input.
We are putting an offer in on the house today...we LOVE it! It is brand new and a lot less money than what we were looking at near Concord/Manchester.
