Hi Ladies--
I'm an RI gal who has never been to VT and DH and I were considering taking a day trip there next weekend...couple of questions...
How is the foliage right now? Are we past peak if we go next weekend? What areas would you suggest--we're looking for outdoors stuff b/c I'm hoping to get some nice pictures. Also, we're thinking of bringing our dog along for the trip so anything we do would need to be outdoors--so no Ben and Jerry's or Cabot Creamery for us!
I've heard about the covered bridges and the view from some of the mountains but don't know where to begin--any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Re: RI Nestie looking to visit VT
As i mentioned to the later poster above, since we've hit peak up north here in the north east kingdom, I would stick with Southern VT. My Recs:
Manchester, VT...charming, shopping and great food (try the perfect wife) then you can drive up to Woodstock, the old homestead of the Vanderbilt Family: quintessential VT with great hiking at the Quechee Gorge!! Have fun and enjoy the leaves! Stay away from : Rutland & Bennington.
Manchester also has good hiking at the Hildene and the dirve to Mount Equinox is very romantic (or you can walk it but it's pretty steep!) Also, the Battenkill River is right there and is dog friendly (I bring mine all the time!!)
