Changing your sheets

When you wash your sheets, what do you do with them? Put them back on the bed? Fold them and put them away?

We got a second set of sheets for our wedding, which is awesome, but with one set of sheets, I was used to stripping the bed, washing, and remaking the bed in the same day. I feel like if I wash them and fold them up for later, they won't be as fresh when I go to change my sheets. But it would annoy me to constantly have them sitting in a laundry basket for a week or two until I'm ready to change the sheets again.

Re: Changing your sheets

  • Fold them and put them in the linen closet, or some other storage space. If you dont have closet space, put them in a plastic under bed tote.I have 3 sets of sheets that I rotate, so that they all have the same amount of wear and tear.
  • But do you find they still smell fresh when you do that? We have under-the-bed storage I can clean out and use, I just love the smell and feel of really fresh sheets!

  • You can always put an unused fabric softener sheet in the container. I do that when storing blankets for the summer season.
  • That's a good idea. I used to do that in college, I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me. Thanks!

  • Usually I strip, wash/dry and put them back on the bed. Just nice to get the laundry done and out of the way. If by chance I don't get to the laundry then I just throw on another set.
  • I fold them up in a drawer after washing and put a different set on the bed.

I washed them, I know they're clean. They're not getting dirty sitting in  drawer!

  • I put them in our cedar chest, before we had the chest I kept them in our linen closet, but they don't feel as "fresh" as the out-of-the-laundry" ones!

  • I don't like my laundry to smell - dirty or clean.  I can't stand perfume.  So, my sheets smell the same whether i just washed them or they were sitting in a closet for a week or so.  I have 3 sets of sheets.  lately, I've just been washing and putting the same set back on the bed.
  • You could get a plastic countainer to keep the dust off of them, etc.
  • I don't like the smell of things that come out of our linen closet for some reason (I think it's the wood smell).  I have shelves in my clothes closet that are open - and I just fold them and put them on the shelf.  the dryer sheet is a great idea.

  • I wash, and put in linen closet.

I have to sets and rotate them.

I change every week, so they still smell clean.

  • We fold the other set when they're through the laundry, and put them in the linen closet.  We change the sheets every Friday, and the old set gets washed usually Sunday or Monday, so they're not in there that long anyway.

  • I wash, dry, fold, and put in the linen closet. I rotate my sheets, they always still smell fresh when I take them out of the linen closet. Sheets get rotated once a week.
  • During the warmer months, I wouldn't necessarily wash the old sheets when I would put the new ones on, and they *might stay in the laundry for a week, as we have several sets of sheets, and I have this weird thing about wearing our sheets by washing them so frequently. But right now, we are using flannel sheets (we live in an old, cold house), so we wash and put them right back on. I should probably get a spare set...

  • When you take them out of the closet, unfold them and toss them in the dryer with a fabric softener sheet!  It just helps to freshen them some and remove wrinkles too! :-)
