Need OB rec's

We are fairly new to the area and we just found out we are pregnant!  We don't have a family doctor here and I don't have an OB/GYN either.  I tried to look through my insurance's provider directory, but it says there are more than 100 doctors within a 25 miles radius.  How does one choose from that!?

I keep seeing in my head the scene from Knocked Up when they are going doctor to doctor finding the right one.  Please tell me that isn't reality??  How do I choose an OB?  We live closer to the Southside of Indy and I was thinking of delivering at St. Francis, but I have no idea.  Any doctor recommendations or comments regarding St. Francis as a delivery hospital?  Thanks for your help!

Re: Need OB rec's

  • First of all Congrats! Come join us on the Indiana Baby Board.

I live on the southeast side and my OB/GYN is at St. Francis. My Dr. is James Dunlap. I had several friends deliver there and had no complaints.

  • Dr. Nicole Perry at Southwest Center for Women's Health practices at St Francis. She has delivered my friend's babies for the past 5 years. I also used to go to her before we moved on the north side.HTH!
  • Congratulations!!!!!

My doctor is a family doctor that is also an OB/GYN and delivers at St. Francis - Dr. Kimberly Franklin at Madison Ave Family Practice near the mall in Greenwood. She is fantastic!!!! While I don't have any kids/never been pregnant. She has been a terrific doctor for all of our other needs.

  • Congratulations!!  Knocked Up is not reality, lol

Choose an OB that you're most comfortable with and that is willing to work with what you want/need.  If you're very into the idea of a natural birth, you may want to even consider a midwife instead.  Hope you have a healthy and happy 9 months!
