Entertaining Ideas Needed

My brother is coming down to Raleigh for Turkey Day.  We are looking for a few things to do on Friday and Saturday that doesn't involve shopping.  So far we figured he could help putting up Xmas lights on the house, but are looking for something more fun.  He is a pretty outdoorsy type guy so we were thinking maybe a hike during the day on Saturday.  But after that, we are at a loss.  Any suggestions?

ETA:  We are also willing to do a half-day trip (1-2 hour drive to spend 3-4 hours there).  We just can't be gone all day since we'll have 3 puppies at home.

  • William Umstead Park, Falls Lake & Jordan lake are all close by. We've done hiking trails at all 3 parks, and I bet the fall leaves are gorgeous!

Other things: wine tasting, tour a brewery, art museum, the Raleigh flea market (I know its shopping, but still unique). Have fun!

  • Eno River State Park in Durham is beautiful and not as crowded as Umstead.
