How much $ on gift wrap?

just wondering how much do you typically spend on christmas gift wrap? I love wrapping presents and love making them look great, but it can get pricey. this year I bought most of my stuff at sams and costco.

$10 on paper (200 sq ft of cute foil paper)

$6 on ribbon and tissue paper each

$4 on boxes and $1 on tags

does this sound average?

Re: How much $ on gift wrap?

  • that's not bad at all!  I try to buy most of mine at the after christmas sale at Target, they have some really cute paper.

  • I got mine at Costco as well (4 rolls for $10) and I think it's the best wrapping paper I have ever used! The quality is fantastic.

  • I spend a ton on wrapping supplies.

4 rolls of paper: $20 - $40, depending on where I get it

    6 rolls of ribbon: $25

1 pack of tissue paper: $5

    Assorted boxes: $10

    Tags: $10

I love wrapping presents and like to "do it right". I use premium gift wrap with coordinating tie on tags and wired cloth ribbon.

  • I stock up every year for the next year, and always with themes. One year was blue and silver snowflakes, another was red and green and reindeer, etc. This year is plaid/Kraft paper and raffia. I am also a big fan of the sturdy decorated boxes that Hallmark and similar stores carry.
  • I have about 5 rolls...lol which is a lot... but two are from previous xmas's....and the 3 new ones i bought were about $2-$5 each for about 90 sq feet foil paper..i am in need of boxes and do not want to spend more than $4-5...so yes, i think it sounds average!
  • I try to buy mine after Christmas so it's 50% off and I save it. I am also big on buying those gift bags, as I am a terrible wrapper. People joke that they can tell when a gift is from me because the wrap is horrible. I can't do the side folds, so I trim the paper, you can see the inside . . . it is horrible and I'm having anxiety about wrapping already.

  • I was actually really surprised by the quality of the paper that I got at the dollar store.  In years past it wasn't that good, but this year there was actually a Martha Stewart print and I got 40 sq. ft. for a dolla'.  But your breakdown seems normal to me. :)

This is my favorite! I also like to add something to the raffia. Sometimes a spring or evergreen or a mini pinecone or a small wooden snowflake! Love it!

  • I buy gift wrap after Christmas when it's on clearance. I have close to 40 rolls of wrapping paper because I like to wrap everyone's gift in a different paper. Because I already have so many rolls my DH has requested that I not buy anymore this year.
  • I always end up spending more than I had planned on because everything has to match. I spent $3.99 per roll today, but I Had to buy more because each roll of the thick paper had less on it than usual rolls. I haven't found ribbon yet, but it's usually around $6/roll.
