1. Salvation Army bell ringers--do you give to them when they're at the doors of places such as Wal-Mart or the mall? Every now and then, yeah. I need to donate more this year though.

2. If you were going to give to a charity over the holidays, which one would it be? The local food bank or Toys for Tots.

3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? Peace of mind - but if that can't happen, some new kitchen stuff will work.

4. You're with friends at dinner, and the other couple begins to talk about politics. They're your complete opposite in their beliefs. Do you change the subject, or continue to have a discussion? As long as they're not insisting that I think like them or completely bash what I believe in, I'm OK with having a healthy discussion and listening to their views - I'm always up for learning something. But if it got too heated, I'd change it quick.

5. What's for dinner? Probably Olive Garden - meeting my mom in OKC so she can take JJ for the holiday weekend.

6. SEXY TIME--will Thanksgiving deter you from sexing it up this week? Well, I won't see H again until the very beginning of February, so...no sexy time for me until then. Sigh.

3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? Well, if money was not an issue, plane tickets to Ireland would be GREAT! If it has to be something reasonable, then I'd like a Kindle or CHI straightener.

Probably get into a discussion. Depends on how open-minded the friend is. If they are going to sit there and try and tell their way is 'right' then I will change the subject.
5. What's for dinner? Tonight? Stir fry meat and eggs.
6. SEXY TIME--will Thanksgiving deter you from sexing it up this week? Eh.....it MIGHT. Depends on if we can get away from visitors long enough to have time alone.

Eh, we usually talk about it. H loves talking politics and doesn't care if he hurts feelings. I usually just chime in here and there but eventually work the conversation to something else.

1. Salvation Army bell ringers--do you give to them when they're at the doors of places such as Wal-Mart or the mall? I used to, but not anymore. They have discriminatory hiring practices, so I would rather give my money to another charity that doesn't practice bigotry.

2. If you were going to give to a charity over the holidays, which one would it be? The Regional Food Bank

3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? Toms boots or one of these adorable handmade scarf/necklace things a friend of mine on FB makes.

I would probably continue the discussion. H would certainly continue the discussion. He loves to talk politics. It would probably derail pretty quickly, though, if we were talking about something like the economy or healthcare and they were making assertions without any facts to back them up. That is H's big pet peeve, so I would probably try to steer the discussion elsewhere before it got heated.

5. What's for dinner? Not sure yet. Maybe spaghetti or zucchini grinders.

3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? A B&N Nook.

I probably try to change the subject. Politics make me uncomfortable... and I don't feel like I'm educated about them enough to really discuss and defend my own beliefs/opinions.

We've both got things going - the cold front moving in means that H will be spending all of his time off work in his deer stand if he's not at a family Thanksgiving. I will be going to the HP movie, spending time with my best friend who lives in Missouri, doing our Black Friday shopping adventure, getting together with the girls on my dad's side for a "Girls' Night In" type of thing, and spending my entire Saturday in Stillwater for Bedlam.

2. If you were going to give to a charity over the holidays, which one would it be? The Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Foundation and my local Easter Seals (split in half)

3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? The gift of not having to exchange gifts---I don't particularly like giving or receiving and find both pretty stressful

Honestly? My views on some political issues (like equal rights for everyone or reducing stratification) are so important to me that I've built a career around them. So if someone's views were that different from my own, we could be acquaintences, but we'd probably never be friends. There just aren't enough hours in the day to befriend everyone, so I'm fairly picky about this.

Some of you heard my example about DH setting us up with 3 couples from work to go to dinner. One man was black, and another man's child was calling him the "n-word" over and over. When I audibly gasped, the dad tried to get the kid (around 8) to apologize, gave up, and then mumbled something almost inaudible about "welfare cheats." Um, yeah...I'm pretty sure I know where that kid got their ideas from. We're never going to be friends. I don't care how otherwise nice they are to me.

Let's say, though, for sake of argument that I think the way to reduce economic inequality is to increase TANF subsidies while my friend thinks we should eliminate TANF subsidies, but make community college and day care free for any household earning less than $20k/year. THAT'S a political debate that would be fun for me to have. Essentially we're on the same "team" so there's room for a lot of thoughtful consideration and compromise in that discussion.

We're donating to local charity organizations this year- The Spero Project (raises money and awareness for marginalized women, orphans, refugees, and the poor) and The Tapestry Project (rehabilitating and revitalizing a neighborhood at SW29th & Portland).

3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? I would love to get some of my own prints blown up and framed, or put on canvass...

Since this just happened to me on Saturday at dinner with a couple for DH's work... haha I will discuss politics with anyone (even someone with opposing beliefs) who educates themselves beyond what they hear about on the news or from a chain letter. The guy we went to dinner with WORSHIPPED Pres. Bush, thought he was the best we've ever had (right behind Reagan) and thought he had nothing to apologize for. He then started slamming Obama, more so for his "Muslim beliefs" than anything else. Some people I just can't tolerate.....

2. If you were going to give to a charity over the holidays, which one would it be? For the holidays, our adopt-a-family at work or an Angel Tree. Throughout the year, my charities of choice are the Alzheimer's Association, a pet rescue organization, the Ronald McDonald House, and DonorsChoose.
3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? There isn't really much I want, but I would put a foot massager to good use.

2. If you were going to give to a charity over the holidays, which one would it be? we like to donate to Habitat for Humanity

3. What's the one thing you'd love to get for Christmas/Holiday? I would love for my house to be finished by then! As far as material things, I want new living room furniture, but not until we sell this house.

I don't really have strong political views, so I would probably change the subject just because I don't really like politics anyway.
