Re: Need Office Holiday Party Ideas

  • You could all go out to lunch at a favorite place and have a White Elephant type exchange with a theme like, "presents that weigh one pound and cost less than 10 bucks" or ornaments.  For more fun, surprise everyone after lunch with a cake to share.

Or have a pot-lunch Christmas brunch.  You bring the fancy coffee and make waffles to order on a waffle maker right there in the office.  Christmas music playing, of course.

  • What are the demographics of the group?  Is there a budget?  What time of day?  My dept would just go to lunch and frankly that was plenty for us.

With the right group it might be fun to go to other depts/hospital/nursing home and carol.

I'm usually a debbie downer, but the white elephant parties are not fun for me.  It's money I don't want to spend and crap I don't want to get.  I'd rather someone drop $10 in a red kettle.

  • Our department of 4-5 attends a holiday luncheon put on by an affiliate of our company, sometimes we do an evening and bring spouses.  We do an informal gift exchange (only because Boss's wife likes to put stuff together for us).  Usually food gifts Big Smile

At my previous job we did a dinner with spouses (hosted by one of the couples) and played some holiday word games, guessing the Christmas Carols based on pictures or word descriptions.

I've also done white elephant (must be something you already own) or dollar store finds.  These are always fun, but you have to have the right group of people.  Like PP mentioned, not everyone likes these.
