Please Please Please keep a record somewhere of your credit card numbers and the customer serivce number on the back of them! (And if you are going traveling - make sure someone back home has access to it just in case!)
My sister had her wallet stolen yesterday. Thank god she only had two cards. But she ran into trouble when she tried to call and tell them what was going on the first thing they wanted was the account number - which she didn't have because they were stolen!! Then Wells Fargo wanted to sign her up for a identity theft montoring program, which at this point she figured she better, but they couldn't charge her card because she had just canceled them and didn't have another card because they were stolen!!!
So PLEASE keep a record somewhere with this information, and it might not be a bad idea to keep one of your credit cards separate (at home?) in case of emergency or something like this. Because now she doesn't have a card to use for everyday things (gas, food, errands) since a lot of places stopped taking checks and she hardly every has cash. Which also, thankfully she only had $1.00 in her wallet.
"They" ended up with $600 at Toys R us and $800 at Walmart, but had also tried Old Navy, Lowes, and another store but those were not authorized. I am hoping and praying for a fast investigation and that she gets her money back soon. It seems that the transactions were even $$ amounts so thinking they bought gift cards maybe they can cancel those gift cards and give her money back??? T&P appreciated!!
ETA: These were both debit cards so she is out the actual cash for now. Oh and she had her flex spending credit card in there too and needs that to buy meds!
