Wait until after Thanksgiving!

Does anyone else agree that people should wait until after Thanksgiving to turn on their house Christmas lights?

Alot of people here will put them up way before Thanksgiving.  Which is understandable because it gets cold here.  But....

I just think you should wait until after Thanksgiving to turn them on.

IDK.... Pet peeve of mine.

Re: Wait until after Thanksgiving!

  • kind of like having lights on your house year around
  • Lights on the outside of house - yes

  • I believe the decor should wait until after Thanksgiving!  We are actually starting to pull everything out today since we have no big plans for T-Day.

But then again, I decorate for Advent until Christmas Eve and then change to Christmas!  It makes the two seasons more distinct.

  • I also wish people would wait until after Thanksgiving to turn on their Christmas lights. But everyone around here has them on and a lot of the towns had "light up" night last weekend. It just seems like we're always rushing to get to Christmas and skip over Thanksgiving.

  • I think Thanksgiving evening should be *the* time to turn on the lights for the first time.

  • I don't see a problem with setting up the Christmas lights before Thanksgiving b/c it's nice out and no snow yet, but PLEASE don't turn them on before Thanksgiving.

  • I don't agree. I didn't grow up in this culture that has Thanksgiving. For us, Christmas was the biggest event of the year, then New Year's.
  • I understand putting them up early (especially since it's cheaper to higher someone to do prior to Decemeber). But don't turn them on yet. Wait till Thanksgiving.

  • I agree, but I think there are those who need Christmas a little early this year...it's been a rough year...
  • GIrl I am with you on this one!! It drives e BATTY!! I went to the mall with my mom last week and Santa was already there!! To me, Chrismas officially starts once u see Santa on the Macy's thankgiving parade. Anytime before that is too early.

Kids are missing that "magic" of christmas ya know(granted I know thats its all about Jesus) but I remember as a kid that the magic of it all is going to see Santa and making the cookies and all that....
