Hi,
We're headed up to Portsmouth Sunday night of Columbus Day weekend, and spending the day Monday (we live in RI). My boyfriend's Mom (I know, we're not married) and a friend are coming with. I've looked a little bit online for things to do, but haven't found any good recommendations. If anyone has any rec's for a place to stay (doesn't have to be downtown, but would be nice), good restaurants (I read that it's one of the highest per capita restaurant cities), shopping, etc., I'd really appreciate it. I hope we can hit up a brewery or two (what's the best one?) if they're open Columbus Day. Are there any things to do not to miss?
Thanks so much!
Jenn
Re: Portsmouth Things to Do Recs
For breweries, Red Hook and Portsmouth Brewery. Both are good. Red Hook has a tour (very cheap like $2 a person) and good food.
Restaurants: Muddy River Smokehouse, Sakura, Portsmouth Gas Light Co., The Oar House, The Rusty Hammer, Friendly Toast...there are a ton more too. Lots of really good places to eat.
Thanks so much! I appreciate all your help.
Are there any museums, tours, etc. that are "must see"? I've read that Market Square is cute with shops, galleries, etc., but am not sure what else to do.
I have no idea if it is your style or not but the Friendly Toast is one of our favorite places! It is really a unique cool place to eat.... Have a great trip!
Strawberry Banke is a musuem. Can't remember when you are visiting portsmouth but the first 2 weekends in december they do a candlelight stroll which is really pretty and you get to see all the houses decorated for xmas and you get to take a horse drawn carriage ride around the property. Im pretty sure they are open year round but you might have to check on that first. there are alot of historical houses around market square and you can take tours. The chamber of commerce has lots of info
