Relo from Charlotte, NC to Batavia/Naperville...thoughts?

Hello everyone!

I'm from the North Carolina Nesties board (even though I haven't posted in months, it's been quite busy around the house lately). My husband and I will be moving back home to the Midwest in the spring, hopefully the Chicago metro area specifically Naperville, Batavia or other areas in the West Suburbs. The good news is my DH has a job basically waiting for him if he wants it (and he does!) in Batavia.

We'll be most definitely renting and already have a couple places in mind located in Naperville that are in our price range.

I've mentioned above that Midwest was "home". My husband was born in Chicago and I was born in Northeast Wisconsin.  He's lived here for nearly 10 years, I've been here for 7.

Anyone have any thoughts on the area, what it's like living in the West Suburbs? Any moving tips?

I hope to post more in the future, especially when we make this big move! Thanks for any advice in advance. :)

  • Hi there! I live about 10 minutes from Batavia, in West Chicago. I would personally recommend looking in Geneva or St. Charles if your husband will be working in Batavia. Naperville is going to be pricey since it's kind of the suburban version of the city, if that makes sense. Batavia is an awesome area, they have great schools and a really nice riverwalk area, Geneva has you covered as far as shopping goes (downtown Geneva is adorable with lots of little shops, there is also Geneva Commons which is a big outdoor mall.) Batavia does not have a lot of rentals. I'm trying to think of more to add but I'm drawing a blank right now.
  • I'm from Charlotte and moved to the city 4 1/2 years ago.  Don't know much about the suburbs though, but good luck with the move....and wait until spring! Snow is falling!

Agreed - any of the tri-cities (Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles) are great! My DH and I live in Batavia - super nice...and they DO actually have lots of rentals - not apartment rentals, but there are definitely lots of houses for rent. Several on our street actually. Great place - close to everything, small town feel, and some really cool old homes.

PM me if you have any questions or anything. Welcome Back!!
