Does anyone know where I can get Windows 7 at a decent price? My DH wants it for christmas and its almost 300. He doesnt want the upgrade version. He also wants the professional one.I'm a college student but all I can find is the upgrades for cheap.
TIA!
Re: Windows 7
Don't know where you go to school, but many Universities have software webstores that provide discount pricing. Alternatively, you could see if going through the Dell education portal (for example) knocks off any $.
Is there a reason why he doesn't want the upgrade version? Surely the PC he wants to install it on has Windows already?
Ditto PP asking why he doesn't want an upgrade? Is this for a computer that isn't currently running Windows? You can get a Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for $174.99 on Newegg.
Unless he's a power user and plans on installing it on other machines later and is concerned about the hassle of first installing whatever previous OS he was running, this should be fine. Maybe he doesn't understand that you can upgrade to Pro; an upgrade isn't a lesser version of the software, it just has to be installed on top of a valid previous OS.
Anyways, Newegg also has the full version for $259.99.
Not sure if you qualify for this one, I upgraded DH's vista to 7 using this one.... is there a particular reason your's wants the full version??? If he is building his own, he can put one of the older versions of windows on first and then upgrade it.

But $65 for the upgrade is about as cheap as you are going to get.... unless you school has a site license for students..... I know when I was in undergrad our school purchased one because of the rampant piracy (threats of lawsuits) of XP going on - the full version was $5 at the bookstore if you wanted the CD.
Cancer sucks.
mircosoft's ultimate steal. or see is you school is part of MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) where you can get it for free.
imho, upgrading an os is more trouble than a clean install of the full system.
