Christmas Village Set Up

Hoping some Nesties might have some ideas. I've wanted a Christmas Village for years and finally have a small one that came as a set. I have it set up next to the Christmas tree on the floor. The floor is carpeted and I put down some fakey foam "snow" and put the village on top of that. The buildings stay up just fine but I also have trees, lampposts, and people figurines which don't stay up too well. Any thoughts on a solution? Should I get a board and cover it with white felt instead? I don't really have a surface to put it on instead. TIA

Re: Christmas Village Set Up

  • When I had room to put up my Dickens Village I used to set it up on the floor as well. I had a huge collection and I used a few things to help keep things stable. First, I went to Home Depot and found a hard fiber board that I had cut to fit under the tree and I covered that in the kind of snow fabric that is often used for model train displays. This gave me a solid surface to start with. Then I bought various sizes of Styrofoam rectangles to build up the area. This allowed me to display some of the buildings behind others, and still see everything. I used the fluffy snow to even out the hard edges of the Styrofoam. I then sprinkled the whole thing lightly with the fake snow flakes.

I miss my village. I wish I had the space and time to set it up, but now it just sits in 10 large rubbermaid containers in my basement storage unit. : (

     Have fun!

  • I have a small village with 5 or 6 houses/buildings and it is just perfect.

When I set up the christmas tree, I start with old towels on the wood floor so as not to scratch.  Then 4 paint buckets, then a round piece of wood on the paint cans.  I think DH cut the wood with a jigsaw.

Then the christmas tree stand centered on the wood, with the tree and white lights.  Then the tree skirt is a dark royal blue tafeta fabric that goes from the tree trunk to the floor, all the way around.

Then the village goes on the tafeta, and some buildings I slip a small piece of 2x4 under the tafeta so it sets a little taller, like the church.  Then I finish decorating and snowing.  I hang 12 clear star ornaments from the bottom branches over the village, then 100 clear plastic angels in the tree, up to the star tree topper.

    It's pretty cool.
