Hey Ladies,
Sorry I've been MIA for awhile but I can explain! ![]()
For the past couple months I've been feeling nauseous and dizzy quite often but it would come and go, about every other week. Along with this I was exhausted and would throw up some times. I know what you're thinking, oh she's definitely pregnant. That's what everyone I talked to thought too, but I was testing about twice a week and I'm not (and we're NOT trying).
So 2 Fridays ago I finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with Vertigo. I don't have a severe case but it's definitely affecting my life. They gave me medication that helps with the symptoms when I have them but it knocks me out so I can't take it when I have to work/drive/do anything. I have not been to work since that Friday and I woke up this morning feeling worse then I did all last week.
I can tell that stress makes the symptoms worse but I was feeling okay Sat. and Sun but last night I could not sleep, I was up sick and only got about 2 hours of sleep and couldn't go to work again today. Luckily my unit leader at work understands as she has Vertigo but I still can't help but think that I may be fired as I only started there in the end of September.
Apparently Vertigo is pretty common but is still new so they don't know a ton about it. I guess I'm not sure if I'm looking for advice or support but I just needed to talk to people about it outside of the situation. Do any of you know anyone who has Vertigo and anything they do to keep a normal life when the have the symptoms?
Re: update
So sorry to hear that you have been dealing with this.
A co-worker has this too. She does have meds that she can take when she feels it coming on. She has plans in mind of what she can do in case she has an attack. She also feels like she cannot see when they occur, and this has happened when she has been driving.
She does try to cut back on stress and not take on as much stuff, sleep more when she can, and take sick days if she needs too. She has found that trying to get through a day when she knows she is having symptoms can make it worse.
Try to relax and take care of yourself. This should not be something that interrupts your life all the time. It reminds me of how my best friend gets migraines. Learn what you need to take care of yourself when the vertigo comes up.
Take care!
That sucks!
My mom got it REALLY bad once. She couldn't get out of bed, or move or anything and kept throwing up because she couldn't stop spinning. They had to call paramedics to come get her out of the house. They took care of it and got it straightened out at the hospital and she's fine now. She has medication but I don't think she's had any need for it since that first time.
You poor thing.
Big hugs to you.
I have actually been going through the same thing for about the past month. I was googling all my symptoms for the 100th time, when I decided to take a break and check out this board. It's bizarre to see a post on here about it too.
I haven't missed any work so far, but it's getting increasingly harder to function on a daily basis. I went to my doctor and had blood work done and it came back normal. They sent my to have an MRI, and that came back that I had a sinus infection. I thought that was weird because I had no other symptoms and have never had sinus problems. They gave me a z pack, and after I took it for the 6 days I still feel no better. Went back to the doctor today, and they did more blood work and an EKG. The EKG was normal, and I will get the results of the blood work later this week. They are now sending my to a neurologist. I'm getting so frustrated because I have no idea why I have been having this Vertigo so bad, and the doctors haven't been able to figure it out either. I was also given and rx to help, but like you said I can't take it if I want to function at all.
I hope you find answers soon, and get to feeling better. I understand how awful it is, and hope we both find relief soon!
