Stef--how was airport security??

Just wondering how your airport travels went.  Hope everything went smoothly!

Re: Stef--how was airport security??

  • ** butting in ** I flew the Saturday before and after TG and had no issues, but didn't have any xray screeners. I did see that Houston's IAH (Bush) airport is getting them-they were there but not yet being used. We hardly had any airport slowness at all. I was surprised. ** butting out **
  • We had to go through security three times.  In Des Moines, our original flight was cancelled while we were at the gate, so we got to double up on our Des Moines security tour ;)

Des Moines and Sacramento both do not have scanners, so there wasn't really any concern (or reason for concern) over that.  Our TSA agents were super friendly, smiling, etc.  Very nice.  My brother didn't understand that you can't carry on sealed bottles of water, so he had to dump four unopened bottles of water, but even with that, they were actually apologetic and nice and offered to dump the water but let him keep the bottles to refill on the other side of security.

We probably stood in line a grand total of 5 minutes for all three of our security passes (travelling to and from on a few of the busiest travel days)...so really, NO delays, NO scanners, NO invasive patdowns.  Was totally awesome and uneventful.  I <3 the Sacramento airport and travelling from terminal B (United).  When we fly to Europe next month, we leave out of Sac, and then return from Geneva, so no scanners anticipated for that trip either.

Thanks for asking!  Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving Holiday!

  • I'll also butt in and share my experience:

My mom (who has a pacemaker) LOVES the backscatter machines because she could go through them and didn't have to be patted down.  She said the pat down leaving San Diego was worse than it was a month ago...including feeling all around her waistband.

DH and I were frustrated by lack of consistency.  I was wearing Q, asked the 1st agent if I needed to unwrap him and was told no.  Then, just before walking through x-ray was told I did.  DH was told he didn't have to take his belt off in San Jose, but had to take it off in Las Vegas (not just the buckle they're worried about, also, what could be in belt.
