Just wondering if anyone has ever hosted a holiday cookie swap party? I saw the idea on Martha Stewart.com and thought it was cute and sounds like fun.
Re: Cookie Swap Party
I have either hosted or attended a Cookie Exchange every year for the last 6 years. My mom has gone to them for as long as I can remember! You get some great cookies and only have to make one kind! Most say to bring 3 dozen cookies (some 6 dozen) and you take home the same number as you bring but of different kinds!
We started having one last year with all of my girl friends. There are 8 of us and we each bring 8 dozen of the same cookies. It's nice leaving with a variety of cookies and not all of the work!
Plus it's just fun to get together, drink wine and hang out!
Yes! Me and a friend started doing them 5 years ago. This Saturday is our 5th one and we always look so forward to it. We end up with around 10ish ladies coming. Everybody always looks so forward to it. Everybody makes a cookie/bar/etc. and brings enough to share at the party, and for guests to take home to family.
Some things we do, to help you with ideas:
- We serve hot apple cider, coffee, hot chocolate and milk with the cookies.
- We vote on 3-4 categories and the winners receive $5 starbucks giftcards or something cooking related (but no more than $5 each). The categories are "Most Photogenic", "Even I could make this one!", "Don't judge a book by it's cover" and "Best Overall".
- In year's past, we've had everybody tell the reason/story behind the cookie they brought.
- We make the guests RSVP with their recipe the week before and we type them all up in a recipe book and hand out at the party. (nothing fancy..just a cute colored cover with recipes stapled/tied together)
- Provide ziplock freezer bags for guests to take cookies home in, if needed.
Hope this helps! We always have a blast trying new cookies, chatting, and kicking off the Christmas season!
