Ok, so I might be living in 2006, but I don't have an iphone and I'm thinking about getting an iPad, but I'm a bit clueless of what they can or cannot do...
Here are some random things that I'd want/ are concerns....
Connect to internet similar to computer/ not phone (meaning no data plan)?
Can hold lots of pictures and music? What is the GB? Is it low or can it hold high res photos and a lot of stuff?
Can you use microsoft products like excel? Is there an app for that?
Is there photo editing software, or can you download it... is this another app thing?
Can you use gmail through the email/internet, or is that another app?
Anything else, pro/con... or articles you know about, would be awesome.
Re: Random Qs regarding iPad
I don't have one, and I haven't read too much, but I can answer some of your questions!
Connect to internet similar to computer/ not phone (meaning no data plan)? With both models you can connect to WiFi (like in your house) and with the upper end model you can also connect through 3G, but that likely requires a data plan (bonus, you can connect nearly anywhere)
Can hold lots of pictures and music? What is the GB? Is it low or can it hold high res photos and a lot of stuff? They come in 16, 32 and 64 GB models. Most songs/biggish pictures run in the 4MB range, so 16 GB would allow you to store around 4000 pictures/songs (but lower, since you'd need room for other stuff too).
Can you use microsoft products like excel? Is there an app for that? You can buy the Apple versions of the Microsoft products, but there may be apps to support Windows stuff. I'm not positive.
Is there photo editing software, or can you download it... is this another app thing? There are apps for editing photos.
Can you use gmail through the email/internet, or is that another app? You can set it up to push your GMail to it (as in, GMail sends your mail to your phone when it comes in, as opposed to the phone having to go look for it every x minutes). That part is easy!
This page lists the features. Take a look!
Personally, I'd probably prefer a tricked out netbook over an iPad, but if cost were irrelevant, I'd get one.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
Thanks raynes, knew you'd have answers. I also asked one of my friends from home, hes all into tech everything and basically said the same thing about the netbook being the better choice.
Good stuff. Thanks!

Raynes pretty much summed it up. I have an iPad and love it, but it is definitely not a replacement for a laptop. It is perfect for traveling when I only want to surf the internet and do emails, and don't want to lug around my laptop. But it is not a full time replacement.
There are photo editing apps but they are pretty basic and similar to the free ones online. They do not have the Lightroom or Photoshop capabilities if that is what you are looking for, but they are good for simple actions.
