Surprise Hubs bday party

Ok I have an idea. I am wanting to throw a surprise bday party for the hubby. Problem is his birthday is SUPER close the New Years so we could do the party the weekend before but then it would compete with new years eve or we could do it the next week when everyone has started their diets etc.? I need help on advice. do we a two in one New Years eve/ Birthday party? THis way he is semi- in the loop but have everyone come at a different time or something? I need help!

Re: Surprise Hubs bday party

  • I think 2-in-1 sounds like a great idea.  I'd love to celebrate my bday on NYE with a big group of friends.

Not sure what you mean about have everyone come at a different time though.

You can have little surprises through out the night:

    • surprise him with a cake with sparklers as candles at 11:30 and have everyone sing.  (Not sure how you would hide a cake from him though??? - maybe a friend can bring it?)
    • Maybe you can give him his gift right after the cake cutting
    • Perhaps, you can have a special birthday toast at some point in the evening, since everyone is likely to have drinks in their hands
    • Not sure if this is your style: but a birthday pinata might be fun

To throw him off, you can let him know that you're planning a "bday dinner"  at a nice restaurant with a few friends to celebrate his bday after NYE.

    HTH.

I think she means that if she plans a NYE party she has to let her H in on it so he would know it started at 7 so she might want people to come at 6 to yell surprise as he comes back from picking up some last minute snacks thinking that the party starts in an hour. Doing the birthday thing early in the night.

Either way, doing b-day early or right before 12, I think the combo party sounds like a good idea.

  • That is a super cute party.  I say definitely do them together.  Just because you don't ring in the New Year to midnight.  If you have everyone over early, you have plenty of time to do a whole dinner/cake birthday party before. Plus, everyone can let loose, because most people have the next day off of work.  Surprise parties can be difficult.  I would only tell him a couple friends are coming over for new years and that you'll do this birthday next week.  Then have all his friends there.  Have one of his friends take him out and then when he comes back have everyone there.
