Today has been a crazy day, lots of ups & downs.  I haven't been able to get a lot done that I needed to do, and after jumping through a zillion hoops, now I'm even more under the gun than I thought I was.

I called the firm at 9:05 this morning to confirm that I want the job.  And heard that they since heard from my last firm.  The ones who booted me 2 months before the wedding.  Who knew we were paying for it ourselves.  Who refused to give me referral fees when I brought in clients, something that's done in every firm.  Who didn't send in their reply cards to the wedding, even to say "no," they were that childish & petty.  Who forbade the two secretaries from coming to my wedding or they'd lose their jobs.  Who fought my UI so I lost 26 weeks of benefits.

Well, they talked to the new firm.  And they told them (get this) that (1) I am incapable of meeting deadlines and (2) I treat the office staff like sh!t.

Not kidding.

So... there's one secretary from the old firm that left about six months ago, and we're still in contact.  I couldn't find her phone number.  So I emailed her.  On two accounts.  And messaged her on Facebook.  No response, so I actually drove over there - she lives just a town over - to see if she was home.  She was.  And sick as a dog.  As sick as I was a while back that I thought I might have bronchitis and need a visit to the doc?  That's how sick she is.  She loves me, though, and gave me her phone numbers anyway - house & cell.

And I gave them to the partner at the firm, together with an email she sent me while we were on our honeymoon, 2 months after I was booted, apologizing for not being able to come to the wedding and wishing us well.

He called her.  They talked.  And she told him that I was actually the only attorney in the office who could meet deadlines and that I treated the staff wonderfully and they loved me.

Then I got another call from the other partner asking about something else.

Then I finally, at 6:30 p.m., got a call back from the managing partner telling me I have the job.

And despite the fact that I told them I can start Monday, they want me in this Thursday because I have to be in court on trial on Monday.  Wow.  It sucks, 'cause it means I can't watch the nephew this week, which was going to be my last week doing it.  But I have a job & I'm not saying no.

No kidding... and god only knows how many jobs they've lost me over these two years... and this was just the first one that took the initiative to ask me about it and hear the other side!

Know what I'm looking forward to?  The next Women Lawyers in Bergen meeting (they go to most of those) when I can show off my brand new business cards and let them know I won!

And yeah, regarding the old firm, the suggestion was made by someone else (I'm not naming names) of a baseball bat.

A bat would probably be more effective now that I think about it.  I could get a Texas Rangers one if that would hurt more...since we beat the Yankees and all.  I know it's NY not NJ but it's all the same to me, ha!

Your old job is being ignorant! That's just wrong! I never understood how people can flat out lie and not care. I'm glad that u were able to get in touch with the one girl. I'm soooooo happy for u that I have tears in my eyes.

Gee Wiz!  I certainly wasn't expecting that when I opened this thread!  Glad that friend of yours was willing to chat with the guy...man!  Could you imagine if we lived near you what we could actually do to those douche bags?  Ash and her bats, Vikki with the hockey sticks, Ebonie with the basketball and then the eggs...shucks I'd throw in some toilet paper to roll the house after we egg it!  <-- AwEsOmE!

Thanks, peeps.  A LOT of forms of retribution have been suggested if they werren't on a main street where potential witnesses are always passing.  I like all the suggestions, actually.

Just can't carry 'em out. I'll get my retribution quietly... by having a good job and flaunting it in front of them.

I am 100% sure they have cost you jobs. Absolutely unbelievable. I had a friend who worked a STUDENT job in a lab at the USDA get blackballed by her boss just because he didn't want to have to hire and train someone else. They kept extending her employment (even though she had graduated). Finally she listed someone else in the lab as her reference, and sure enough, she got a job within a month.

Women.  This was the only all-female office I've ever worked in, and it epitomized the reason most of my friends are male or "one of the guys" type women.

It was snipey, gossipy, backbiting... these chicks hold grudges.  One ruling from a judge that doesn't go their way and that judge is forever "stupid" and horrible.

I actually had this new firm contact a judge as a reference for me... and it's one these women hate.  HATE.  The judge?  Had only the highest regard for me and the nicest things to say about me.  I've appeared in front of her a zillion times when she was sitting in the Family Court and we had our month long CEPA trial in front of her in Civil Court, so she's seen my demeanor and whether I'm prepared & all that.  But to the partners at my old firm?  Her last name is DeLaCruz.  They call her DeLaClueless. 

Immature *** like that.  They badmouth other attorneys, politicians, everyone.

It's like the worst of junior high.

Oh, and we lost that trial... and then won the appeal.  And I still like the judge, and the judge still likes me despite the fact that I had to write a brief detailing all the mistakes we alleged she made in her rulings.

Because mature people know that it's all business and not personal.

Good news on the job.  You think, yeah, I got a job and then they put you through the wringer.  They must really like you, especially with them being wary after the last person they hired.
