.pub to .jpeg ?

I have a file I want to conver to a jpeg from a publisher file. Basically I designed our christmas cards in publisher and want to print them but they must be a jpeg. I am at work so I am very limited on software which is why I used publisher.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Re: .pub to .jpeg ?

  • What version of publisher are you using?

  • When you save it just select jpeg under "save as type" instead of Publisher File.

  • Also change the resolution to high quality print since you are printing these out.

  • It does not give me that option. I can only save it as pub. I tried that first.

  • Can you open the file in paint? I usually have to do that with my photoshop pictures if I need to save them as a different type.

  • Are you sure you're not only looking at the "publisher files" type in the "save as type" menu?

These are instructions for saving as .pub, but I think your issue may be at step d.

    a. Click File ? Save As from the menu bar.

    b. Select a location to save the poster from the Save in drop down menu.

    c. Enter a name in the File name field.

    d. Select Publisher Files in the Save as type menu.

    e. Click the Save button to save as a .pub file.

  • I have 2007 also and when I go to Save As the drop down bar has all sorts of options...pdf, gif, jpeg etc. You don't see any of those?

Yeah, I have those options as well.  However, as a test, I just saved a file as a JPG and even at high quality, the max DPI is still only 300.  On screen it doesn't look great, so I don't know how it would print.  (But we're DPI snobs at my job and get annoyed when we aren't provided vector files, so maybe a "normal" viewer wouldn't notice.)

  • seems strange.

300 is the typical dpi. And in Illustrator, that's the max DPI you can have.

Huh.  My understanding was that DPI was irrelevant for vector images, but I know you can set your export DPI at higher than 300.  I'm just a writer Stick out tongue; my AI experience is limited.  I do have the manual sitting on my counter that I've been meaning to read, though...obviously I need to!

Not that it's relevant since OP never came back to tell us if she got it to work!

  • The thing is, once you save a vector file as a jpeg, it's not a vector file anymore. When you are saving something as a jpeg, you are compressing the file, so it leaves out the vector information. If you are going to print the jpeg, you need to keep the resolution as high as possible so it will print well.

    Yeah, that's what I thought.

BTW, thanks for posting...I had no idea that you could save Publisher files as jpegs until I tried it last night!  You never know when that fact might come in handy...
