General interview etiquette

Generally speaking, is it proper etiquette, after an interview, to send a hand written note to the interviewer? Or is an email me appropriate, or neither?

We think its a nice gesture to at least send an email, but some people prefer to do a handwritten note card.  Either one, IMO, is a good followup.

I think it depends on the company but I say most companies now would gladly accept an email!

I sent an email after I interviewed for my current job. I guess it worked!

I've always sent emails. I think times have changed from the handwritten note. But anyway you do it, it will be appreciated.

I think e-mail is fine ... I did this when I applied for my current job 5.5 years ago, and e-mail has only become more accepted since then.

I have always sent a printed TY letter, not a handwritten note.  I don't think I would send an email thank you unless I had been in contact with the interviewer previously via email.

I think an email or hand written note is fine.  Me personally though... I like the hand written note. I wrote one 3 months ago for the role I'm in now. I'm just a fan... I think it's a good personal touch. I noticed my new boss actually has it on her desk still! Of course... an email will get to them faster! No matter how you send it... just make sure you send one!

I think it depends on the company. If it is a tech savy company, they would find it more acceptable to email. If they are more old fashioned, they might find it stand-offish and impersonal if you sent an email.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with either approach. Just be sure it is well thought out and worded appropriately!

Aside from it being an IT positiion or something of that nature, I like handwritten notes.  They are "physical", thus require a bit more attention.  IMO, it's a lot easier to barely skim an email and delete it, or lose it in your inbox, than it is to open a card and forget where it is.  Plus, I think it will make you stand out more than the other candidates, who are most likely all e-mailing.  That's just my .02, though.  Good luck on the job!
