Coming home from girl's night last night...

I saw that there had been a major accident very near my home. I only saw one car that had obviously been impacted. Turns out they struck and killed a 14 year old on a bike Sad

This makes me so sad.

  • Oh no! How sad... let us all remember that with the upcoming holidays, there is more traffic and people in general on the roads. Please use caution when driving.

*I am not of course saying the driver of the vehicle is to blame, she was not cited, just wanting us all to be safe.

  • How tragic for everyone involved. Sad  I feel for the family of the boy who was killed, and also for the woman who was driving.  As she was not cited, I'm assuming she was not at fault.  I know guilt can be terrible regardless, though.  I knew a guy who struck and killed a pedestrian in a situation that was not his fault, and he had a really hard time moving past it.

I feel for the driver as well. I had a friend that was driving his car and hit a motorcyclist.  The motorcyclist was going over 100 miles per hour (my friend was going under the speed limit) and ended up dying.  There was no way my friend could stop.  Even though the motorcyclist was clearly at fault, the motorcyclist's family harrassed him about the accident until my friend committed suicide from the guilt.

With it getting so dark early, please remember to wear light colored clothing when walking, running, biking in the evenings!

    That is horrible. Sad

  • That is very sad! For the driver and for the teen's family. The holidays will be very different for all of them this year. I can't imagine losing a young child, much less right before Christmas. Sad

  • What a sad story :(

  • That's horrible. I drove through that intersection around 9:30 last night, and there were still about a dozen police cars and a fire truck there. I had no idea what had happened though-  I only saw one somewhat damaged car.

I rode my bike to college for years, often coming home after dark. Even with a light on the front and back of my bike, it was a bit terrifying. I don't know why people ride on major streets after dark with no lights, especially if they do it on a regular basis. I've seen several bikers around my neighborhood doing it recently. DH and I try to point them out to each other in case whoever is driving didn't notice them.
