Gift for the garbage men?

I usually do not leave a gift for them but our new ones are amazing. Everyone on our street everyone only has one can/bag and we have 3 or more. We can put anything out and they will take it. (sometimes it is embarrassing how do we have so much trash?) Well, they left us a card and mints so I think it would be nice to give them something.

So, do you leave a gift for the garbage people? If so, what and where do you leave it? Hand it to them when you can catch them? Leave it on top of the garbage can?

Re: Gift for the garbage men?

  • H asked our guys what they'd like last year, so now we leave 3 six-packs of beer.

  • $20, it will make their day! (even if they split it)

  • We recycle an ungodly amount of beer bottles every week. (H drinks 3 or 4 a day after work if he works nights) so I am planning on leaving 3 6packs also.

  • The beer is a great idea, one my CW's husbands was a garbage man and he said beer was his favorite Christmas gift, lol. I gave cash one year. We'd gotten a little holiday flier from them that said something cute and was signed "your garbage men, Greg & Greg", so I gave them each $10 cash in an envelope and taped it to the top of the can. I never knew if they really got it or what and I only ever did it that one year. I must admit that I'm more apt to give something when they leave us a card first, which I know isn't required of them! That's really cute that they gave you a card and mints!
  • no.  We just went to a new system recently where we have one 90 gallon container issued by the county, and one pick up day.  It is now a huge truck with a robot arm that reaches out and picks up the trash and dumps it in the back.  So, we only have a driver :-(
