Re: XMas Food Traditions..

  • we tend to do "linner" between lunch and dinner around 2

this year all I know for sure is we have Cathys Rum cake ordered (mmmmm) and We're having Honey Baked ham

I still have more menu planning to do

  • My mom usually makes this sugar roll thing for breakfast as we do the presents and game playing and then tamales throughout the day. However with DH we've been incorporating more of his family traditions too, so we also now do a deep fried turkey with a couple of sides for "linner" as well around 3ish.

  • On Christmas morning, we always make eggs and bacon and we have Cinnabon (we pick it up the day before).

Christmas is usually spent bouncing around from home to home, so we eat a few times. Usually similar to Thanksgiving, but Ray's family might have ham.  My stepdad's family is the place to be.  OMG.  The food is Amazing!  Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy (actually - everything is homemade), rolls, and all kinds of other stuff.  Plus, my stepdad often makes enchiladas.  And LOTS of homemade pies.

  • Last year was the first year that we weren't going betwen my family & DH's, but I made cinnamon rolls to have in the morning, and we got a honey baked ham to have for linner.  I can't remember what sides I made, but nothing to extravagant.

  • Growing up we woke up too early to see what Santa left, then all of would open presents, then eat a big breakfast together.  Either later that day or the next Saturday we would do linner with the extended family.

Now that we're grown up, at least physically, I plan to do the same with my daughter but add the immediate family at my house for brunch with tons of delish foods.

I do have to say I'm diggin' the Cinnabon idea, but then why eat anything else?  I'd just be waiting to break out the buns, you know?

  • FMD - the rest of my family would likely agree with you (at least the boys), but I'm hypoglycemic, and I can't just have sugary stuff, especially in the morning.  I have to have protein.  I can have some sugar, but I only eat it when I can have it balanced out by protein and maybe some carbs (like bread).  So, no just Cinnabon for me!
  • We have a yummy breakfast of cinnabon and donuts..

Then we do a late lunch early dinner of Ham... I love ham... mmmmm

  • It's only H and I in the morning for Bfast, so I'll make eggs, bacon and toast but these cinnamon things sound yummy. Made, I'll make some.

Then at my grandparents, its pretty much Thanksgiving but with ham. And of course Tamales. The same thing at Dh's family minus the tamales.
