what would you get your brothers girlfriend?

Sorry if this is a little all over.    My brother started seeing a new woman at the beginning of this year, I believe that she is in her mid thirties. I want to buy/make her a Christmas present but I don?t know what to get/make. I have only met her briefly once when she attended my wedding. (It's not that I am not close with my brother we are very close but I am in the military and I rarely see my family). I see the shower gel baskets at the all the stores and I think that is kind of an odd or rude gift, especially coming from someone you barely know. I do have a very nice picture from the wedding of the both of them and I could frame it, but I don?t know how serious their relationship is.     I would really appreciate any ideas Thank you in advance

Re: what would you get your brothers girlfriend?

  • I would do the picture in a nice frame or you can always get her a nice candle or something like that... Or pair them together.
  • I'm personally not a huge fan of giving gift cards as gifts, but in this circumstance maybe a gift card for a manicure or pedicure and offer to go with her. You could make a afternoon out of it if you?d want.

  • Why don't you ask your brother about things she would like?  That's how I found out my brother's girlfriend LOVES soy candles when they first started dating.

  • A candle always wrosk great! or a gift card for starbucks:) that is what we give my borthers gf's. he seems to have a new one every christmas!
  • Ask for your brother some things she likes. Although I am in the minority, I really hate candles (can't explain it but still).

  • I would probably do a stationary set with her intials.  They sell really cute sets at the Hallmark stores.  I'm thinking maybe a nice but inexpensive bottle of wine or a box of chocolates would work too...

  • I think a picture of the two of them would be a nice gift. I've also done gift baskets for people that are themed so that I could get away with doing that but it doesn't seem like I put no effort into it. Like the gel socks or slippers, stuff from Bath and Body Works that says "relax" or "sleep" or "nighttime yada yada," and bubble bath, a bottle of wine, a chic flick, etc. And the theme would be "relax."

  • How about asking your brother what some of her favorite stores are and get her a gift card as well as a copy of the photo of them in a frame? No matter how serious they are, I'm sure she would like it!
  • Maybe I'm a scrooge, but I don't give gifts to my brother's girlfriend. If he got engaged, I probably would, but I think he feels enough pressure to include his SO at family events, and he gets uncomfortable because it makes the relationship seem more serious than he wants it to be.

My brother recently broke up with his girlfriend, so it's not an issue this year, but at this point in his life, he really wants to get married, but he doesn't want to lead anyone on if she isn't right for him.

Although, DH's family got me a shower set after we only dated for a month. LOL.

  • I would ask your brother about some of her interests.

glove slap. I don't take crap.
  • How about a subscription to her favorite magazine or a magazine of something that interests her (i.e. scrapbooking, cooking, sewing, etc.)?
