Camping recommendations?

DH and I are thinking about going camping one night this weekend. Ideally we'd like to go somewhere near Tuscaloosa/Birmingham... not too far away from home.

I love Lake Lurleen State Park in Northport because they've got tent sites that are on the water, but I'm afraid with it being a gameday weekend this weekend that it will be packed!

Anyone else have suggestions of nice campgrounds? I'm not s rustic camper... a campground with a bathroom is a must.

We have a tent and a camp grill that we haven't used since we got married!

Re: Camping recommendations?

  • Oak Mountain? Do they have camping? I would think so... ???

And y'all could go to Homestead Hollow in Springville...it is an arts and crafts festival (if you and Michael would be interested in that...LOL).

  • I used to go to Oak Mountain a lot when I lived in B'ham.  I always went for the day, never camped.
  • One of my best friends that lives in Tuscaloosa loves to go to Tannehill.  She took her kids a few weeks ago and they had a blast!  I can ask her for specific info if you need anything.  Just let me know.

  • Tannehill is always great, and dh and I love Oak Mountain. Oak Mountain does have camping spots with running water and a bathroom.

  • I'm no rustic camper either, but we really enjoyed camping at Oak Mountain...we had a bathroom within walking distance.
